An online movement of men is shrugging off the stereotype that 'cats are for girls' and flaunting their affinity for kitties, writes Hayley Gleeson. And they're giving others permission to embrace a gentler, more thoughtful kind of masculinity.
Myles Loughran is a cat man. 'Cat man' as in, 'cat lady', but with a Y-chromosome. Put another way, Mr Loughran is a man who likes cats as opposed to a man who likes dogs, say, or miniature pigs.
"There's something about cats," the 29-year-old co-owner of Cat Cafe Melbourne tells ABC News.
"I feel they can give you that real dedication that a lot of animals can't. And even though they can be a bit aloof, when they bond with you, there's nothing like it."

To my regret, I went to the source page.
Judging from the photos of the Aussie Cat Men, those pussy men are in absolutely no danger from catching “toxic masculinity” whatsoever. They were pussy men long before they acquired any felines.
Oz, WTFH?
Cats are okay for men, as long as the cat is a brown/grey tabby.
I wonder if the author of this piece thinks women, like myself for one, who would prefer to drop-kick every small yappy dog suffers from toxic femininity?
He was badass, son of a bobcat, weighed over 20 pounds, kept the backyard clear of rodents and mockingbirds. He'd often leave the carcasses on the porch, as a gift to my mom. Bedeviled our dog, and liked to crash in my room. He was playful, though I had plenty of scratches from him...nothing serious. Same thing now with my son's shepherd/Rottweiler mix...she'll occasionally draw blood, nothing serious.
Not sure the subject of that article would appreciate a cat like that.
Mah kitteh kat loves me! So does my puppy dogs! Now if I could just get them to get along with each other....
I love dogs, but there’s no way I’ll ever own one, too much work. With the walks, and the chewing, and the having to secure your back yard, forget about it. I own pets to relax me, not to add to my to do list. But I’ll gladly spoil my friends’ dogs.
Yet again,I hand my head in shame.
I like cats.
And yet am one of the most ‘toxicly’ masculine male chauvinist pig macho neanderthals you will ever encounter.
The pictures at the article are... shall we say... “geh?”
I’m highly offended.
Ah, yes. A classic.
“Adjusts to fit any cat”
Yeah, WTF is with the photos? Every subject of those photos is gormless and would be cat or no cat. Either editorial was subtly mocking the notion of “toxic masculinity” by juxtaposing the article with those photos, or reality is indistinguishable from satire.
Oh, wait. That's not what they're talking about.
Of course I wouldn't want any of *them* in my house.
“Cat Carrier”? Absolutely NOT funny. Are you sick, or what?
I have two new kittens ... a brother and a sister who I already love. I love dogs too but can’t have them right now.
Years ago, I watched my 14 year old domestic cat stalk and kill a bird. I was impressed.
I think it’s a pretty common myth that cats need a LOT less attention than dogs, but on a sliding scale. The cats I’ve had have been very bonded with the hoomans in my house, so much so that they’ve demonstrated anxiety when we were gone for extended periods.
Of course, it’s a no-brainer that cats can use the “toilet,” which makes them quite a bit lower maintenance.
Everyone should live with three or more cats. It is the most interesting pet situation I’ve ever seen.
We have intrigue, spite, love, hate . . . the best entertainment ever.
