r full disclosure, I am Canada. My daughter is in grade 6 and goes to a private school but I discovered something printed from a teaching guide that really bothered me. It is from a publication called "What in the world". I sent an email to the teacher but have not as yet spoke with him. It talks about the US election. Some of the things that popped out were "He will become the 45th president of the United States - and the first without government or military experience". In a headline box is "Did You know? Despite losing the Electoral College, Hillary Clinton won the US popular vote by more than 2 million ballots". Then "Trump won by appealing to the white middle-class families....Hillary scooped 9 out of 10 black votes and two-thirds of the Hispanic Vote. Under controversial promises is included that Trump will cut taxes to the rich (misleading) and that he mocked a disabled reporter (extraneous information that has nothing to do with "policy" and not entirely true.
Here is what a teacher says about the materials.

The wife thinks I am over reacting. I didn’t post the whole article because I would basically have to re-type it all but it does come off as a carefully worded hit piece on Trump. Part of what is strange to me is that something this complicated is being taught in Grade 6. Last week it was Syria. Syria is too complicated for most adults.
So I think I am right to be concerned but maybe flipping out on the teacher is the wrong way to go? Maybe keep an eye on any future material from this source and review it critically with my daughter each time?
My wife countered that “I want them to think like me”. I don’t know about that. I just want to inoculate them against liberalism the best I am able. Part of liberalism is just taking the most simple facts, without context and deeper thinking, and running with it. I sent a nicely worded email to the teacher, so I will see if he comes back with anything.
FWIW, it is likely a US source for this text book. Canadians generally get the MSM version of US current events.

Yes, the first point there seemed like like extraneous information to make Trump look bad. I am curious in point 2, since recounts are not finished how they know how much she won by.
It comes down to values vs. the ability to reason. I think most liberalism is due to absorbing shallow “fact” and trying to simplify complex events. My wife thinks it is more about VALUES. That liberals and conservative value different things.
My mistake was thinking the propaganda would start in senior high school. Seems strange that we are talking to kids in Grade 6 about Castro’s cuba, US elections, and the effort to clear Mosul of terrorists. So what I am up against is these very very complex issues. It would take pages and pages of information and explanation to explain these, but they are reduced to 2 pages in this textbook.

Had no idea it was a Victoria publication. That might explain things. Victoria is the only district in the entire nation that voted for a Green Party candidate last election. Victoria is like granola on steroids.

Its not untrue, Trump has no previous Military OR Political experience at all, he indeed will be the first President ever that has prior experience in either. That’s just fact...

Well, he went to high school that was a military academy. He has had to deal with politicians in New York, New Jersey, Chicago and other places and states to build his projects.
In addition he has properties in at least 14 foreign countries and that means dealing with the politics and politicians of those countries.
I think that is more experience than Barack Obama had when he was elected President.
In fact, Obama's claim to fame was that he was a community organizer (translation: communist agitator). Furthermore, when he was an assemblyman he voted 'present' nearly all the time. That is great legislative experience. No!

Does Canada or each province have what in the U.S. is called in many states “Adopted Textbooks”? If so, the choices for all schools are done at that level as sources that are “recommended. The choices are made up the chain of command” and the contracts for several years and affect millions of students. If so, complaints can go there. Find out where the choice is made for your child’s school.
This might seem jazzy to some no-nothing educator just because it’s online.
The field of teaching has, like the rest, been thoroughly soaked in Left propaganda for a very long time. Perhaps you can start an organized study of the textbook, alongs with others who also care and present your findings. You can present and publish and send your findings to your local newspapers, too.
You are smart of go over what your child is being presented. Most parents trust the school and either don’t even realize it or don’t bother.
I would also talk with the teacher by making an appointment for a meeting. You can suggest that the teacher himself/herself look critically at the materials being published for the students and do fact checking for herself and ask the students to also fact check and make a class project out of that. Now that would be a good education in independent critical thought, assuming the teacher isn’t a “true believer” in the Leftist propaganda.
Sorry but you are stretching. Going to a privately run military academy is not military service, not by any stretch of the imagination.
Nor is arguing that you had to deal with politicians in your business is the same as being a politician. That’s like saying everyone who’s ever gotten a speeding ticked is a cop.
There is nothing incorrect or wrong with the statement Trump will be the first president with no prior military or political experience. This is a factual statement and there is nothing wrong with it. The fact folks here are trying to stretch things to try to claim otherwise is nonsense.
It’s not a lie and there is no reason to try to make up things to try to claim it’s a false statement.
It’s a 100% factually correct statement and there is absolutely no reason to be ashamed by it, let alon try to invent excuses or insane leaps of logic to claim otherwise.
I’m assuming that the items you specified above were picked out of a somewhat longer piece so it’s hard to tell what the overall balance was. Most of the things you mention are just facts so it doesn’t come across as “a lot of propaganda”. The last two items could be seen as cherry picking material to be negative. If you feel that the piece is biased it is appropriate to let the teacher know briefly but at this point I would not flip out but just wait to see what else comes down the pike.
What’s wrong with wanting your child to think like you ? You are the parent and presumably educated, possess common sense and basic reasoning skills and want your child to have the same. Leftist indoctrination is the antithesis of those things. I don’t call it “liberalism.” The left stole that word and perverted its true meaning. Conservatism today is classic liberalism.
31 years ago when I was in the 6th grade, they were pulling this leftist brainwashing crap and I was already smart enough to rebel against it. The teachers didn’t like that I challenged them. I wouldn’t send my child to a school to be indoctrinated for any amount of money.
And, for your information I do have military experience. 1st. Infantry Division 1968-1969. 2nd Battalion Mechanized, 2nd Infantry Regiment, Lai Khe, Vietnam.
And, for your information, one doesn't have to be a crooked politician to be able to handle crooked politicians and know how they work.

Never thought of it. I guess what I need to start to do is every Monday take a look at what she learned. Ask questions like “If Trump really is a racist, why would 12% of black people vote for him?”
