Obama Administration Wants To Kiss Your Local Schools Goodbye
The Federalist ^ | Sep 16, 2016 | Jane Robbins and Emmett McGroarty

[T]he suburban neighborhood school could be headed for extinction. In a veritable symphony of bureaucratic coordination, the administration has figured out how to recruit three cabinet departments, liberal non-profits, and deep-pocketed foundations to this effort.

This ambitious plan is bound up with a new rule from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) called the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule. Stanley Kurtz has provided the definitive analysis of AFFH (see here, here, here, and here).

The rule requires any local jurisdiction that applies for a Community Development Block Grant from HUD to complete an “Assessment of Fair Housing,” analyzing housing occupancy by such categories as race, ethnicity, nationality, and class. If there are imbalances (i.e., if a particular housing area is disproportionally low- or high-income, or white or black or Hispanic or whatever) then the grantee must determine what factors account for the disparities.

As Kurtz points out, every local jurisdiction in the nation will have imbalances of some kind.

Then the grantee must submit a plan to remedy the demographic imbalance. Here’s the kicker: the local jurisdiction’s analysis cannot be limited to that jurisdiction, but must include data from a regional level as well.

Remedy how? One alternative HUD has approved would be to nullify local zoning ordinances. Kurtz explains:

[B]y obligating all localities receiving HUD funding to compare their demographics to the region as a whole, AFFH effectively nullifies municipal boundaries. Even with no allegation or evidence of intentional discrimination, the mere existence of a demographic imbalance in the region as a whole must be remedied by a given suburb.

Now, as to how all of this affects education.

Don't for a minute believe that Obama's deeds end once he leaves. A web of coordinated programs HUD, DOT, EPA, Dept of Ed, ACA, has been put in place. They must be dismantled.

It has been going for 50 plus years. The progressive education establishment has been working a long time to destroy local control.

Well they missed it byThatMuch.

They have 40 days left to fully succeed before their chance is gone.

I think we (me) still haven’t absorbed the magnitude of having the house and senate AND a real president (not bush) for at least four years.

SCOTUS is ours for decades now, though no one can read the mind of the person chosen or what they will think or do in the future.

UN Agenda 21 While no one is watching except conspiracy nuts

I was wondering when a realist was going to speak up. This is where the control is coming from.

Obama will slide on over to the UN and continue his dismantling of the US until this FERAL Government wakes up and kicks the UN off our soil and tells this POS organization to load up their blue helmets and take a hike.

Never underestimate the power of big bureaucracy to stay live.

The best why would be getting rid of the dept. of education.

We can work towards goal of down sizing.

Even with all three branches in our hands there are many Rhinos that love big government.

We have battle ahead of us.

50 years is a very conservative estimate. It's been over a century:

Through such works as The School and Society (1899), The Child and the Curriculum (1902), and Democracy and Education (1916), Dewey articulated a unique, indeed revolutionary, reformulation of educational theory and practice based upon the core relationship he believed existed between democratic life and education. Namely, Dewey's vision for the school was inextricably tied to his larger vision of the good society, wherein education–as a deliberately conducted practice of investigation, of problem solving, and of both personal and community growth–was the wellspring of democracy itself. Because each classroom represented a microcosm of the human relationships that constituted the larger community, Dewey believed that the school, as a "little democracy," could create a "more lovely society."

This is nonsense. It would mean that all the schools in any one town would have to fill out papers substantiating balance of ethnicities within that area as well as the surrounding counties or areas, and propose remedies to fix shortfalls in the balancing of ethnicities.

Nanny control over schools. Ugh!
