Former Vice President Al Gore touted Ivanka Trump's commitment to a climate policy "that makes sense" Monday night after meeting with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter.
It's no secret that Ivanka Trump is very committed to having a climate policy that makes sense for our country and for our world and that was certainly evident in the conversation that I had with her," Gore told Chris Hayes on MSNBC's "All In." "I appreciate the fact that she is very concerned about this."
Gore stressed that he preferred to "not give too many details" about the meeting but called it a "very intelligent exchange."
Ivanka Trump has singled out environmental regulation as her primary policy focus as an incoming first daughter, despite her father's past claims that climate change is a hoax propagated by China. Reince Priebus, the incoming White House chief of staff, in recent days said Trump's "default position" on the topic was that most of it is a bunch of bunk.
Gore described both meetings earlier Monday as "very productive" and "extremely interesting," according to pool reports.
"I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect, Gore told reporters. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground. I had a meeting beforehand with Ivanka Trump. The bulk of the time was with the president-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I'm just going to leave it at that.
Despite Gore's endorsement of Ivanka Trump, the president-elect continues to consider Cabinet candidates that have views that run counter to the former vice president's.
Among Trump's top contenders to head the Department of Energy is Oklahoma oilman and Continental Resources CEO Harold Hamm, who was a leading voice on energy policy in the Trump camp during the presidential campaign. Venture capitalist Robert Grady is seen as another potential energy secretary pick.
Trump has considered Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson for secretary of state.
Whatever Trump does will be infinitely better than what would have happened if your ilk had succeeded in allowing Hillary to become President.
Agreed and well stated. I’ve been struggling to discover who “Mr. Nom De Plume” reminds me of. After he blew up recently and cussed out several Freepers using the phrase “Bugger off”.... it hit me. Piers Morgan! Dead-ringer! Arrogant condescending FKIA jerk.
Your principals on trade are correct. The problem is Mexico has a 10-15 % tax on corporate profits. The US has a 35 % tax on corporations. Highest in world. That trumps any other concerns.
Believe me, I have no desire to live rent free in your head and do not welcome your preoccupations about me and whom I remind you of, I far more prefer that you summon all your mental acuity and try to understand content rather than join a conga line in judging a poster's character.
I would certainly have no objection to reading your analysis of facts and opinion without the smears.
My use of the phrase "bugger off" was directed not at differences of fact or opinion but to personal slanders such as that in which you have just so ungraciously indulged.
HEY FREEPERS! THIS IS POLITICO
You all are acting like you are new here, and don’t realize Politico is all democrat spin.
Ignore them. Read it ONLY to find out how bad they think Trump is, and then remember: The worse they think he is, the better.
Trump is plenty ‘moored’... he wants what’s best for the American people... NOT JUST the Republican Party or the Democrats..
How hard is that to understand?
Thanks for the laughs!
Your characterization of my FR posting behavior is exaggerated, incorrect and full of smears and slander. The very accusations you direct toward me. Two replies to your inane
Cruz-butt-hurt posts and I’m preoccupied with YOU? Hardly.
The fact alone that YOU YOURSELF admit to a “conga line” of other posters in agreement should tell YOU something, but it apparently has escaped your oh so keen awareness and your dripping arrogance and condescension.
NOUN: condescension
1. The trait of displaying arrogance by patronizing those considered inferior
2. A communication that indicates lack of respect by patronizing the recipient.
3. Affability to your inferiors and temporary disregard for differences of position or rank
Condescending to you is simply obedience to the natural order.
Appears I’m living rent free in your head, Piers.
Sorry but that bit has already been done on this thread, see what I mean about the natural Order of Things?
Trump to Appoint Global Warming Skeptic to Head EPA
When you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite.
Winston Churchill
It would appear Mr Gore was rather mistaken in his assessment of how his meeting with Mr Trump went.
I am beginning to believe Trump is far far far smart then any of his foes. I think we are going to be surprised at the depths beneath his public persona.
I, for one, can see I vastly underestimated him.
Only time will tell but I think he may have that rare trait other great Presidents have had. The ability to tell someone to go to hell with a smile and a pat on the back.
You didn’t appear to comprehend the first time. What I understand is that you are going to consistently be a jerk, sure as the sun rises and sets. Not sure if it’s intentional or not, leaning toward natural ala Hillary, Pelosi, Michelle, Barack, etc. Explains the long conga line. Let that sink in this time.
I forecast a very rocky road ahead for you on FR, Piers. Putting Megyn Kelly on a pedestal isn’t helping. Neither is constantly ragging on Trump every time you disagree with anything he does or says. And, especially your increasing whining about what you consider fair treatment or how Jim Robinson runs his forum. It’s time you showed some respect for the members here and especially Jim.
One notes that the appointment of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General might be in the same mold, that is, an appointment which runs contrary to his statements backing away from the prosecution of Hillary Clinton, a promise so often made on the campaign trail. I criticized that statement as a threat to the rule of law but Jeff Sessions in the slot of Attorney General is very reassuring indeed.
The rest of Trump's appointments can be characterized as acceptable to inspired.
He is off to a brilliant start, his favorables are up, his negatives are down, Hillary is shuffling off the stage of history with deteriorating numbers, the world seems gradually to be righting itself.
I think you are correct, I think Trump does have the potential to be a great president if he can finesse his "allies" in the Senate and in the House.
So far, so good but not yet in the class of Winston Churchill.
