Try Adblock Plus. Free for several common browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, IE and Edge.

A recent secure browser alternative is “Brave” built by the person who designed Firefox after he left them. This one is relatively new, but has good potential and easy, intuitive interface.

Opera Browser.
Worth noting, the browser “Opera” includes a free Virtual Personal Network (VPN) built into the browser. This can be very beneficial to limit/eliminate unwanted viewing of your Internet connections especially important for on line banking or purchasing. I think of it like running water down a pipe that others cannot see except at both ends verses running water down an open trough for all to see, monitor, record and limit. As a side benefit, a VPN keeps the Internet provider/cable company from knowing you are streaming a video whereby they reduce your download speed accordingly over time.
Another thought, consider rebooting your router and modem sometimes/periodically to change the temporary IP (I think this is the right term or close like dynamic) addressing to keep your IP provider from reducing your speeds and volume over time. I know one IT person who shuts his home one off for a couple days periodically to make sure the temp IP changes which helps keep others from sniffing etc. He just uses another source for a couple of days.
I hope this can help.
there used to be something on the market called Black Ice. Used it for years and it blocked access from the outside to one’s IP address
