At least when they changed the name of the school from North Texas State University to University of North Texas, the school radio station did not change its call letters from KNTU to reflect the new school name.

UNT-University of North Texas was known as NTSU, North Texas State University. The NTSU radio station was KNTU. When they changed the name to UNT back in the 80s, the radio station for one day had the call letters of KUNT.
