As the first episode of her "ballsy" A&E series premieres, the actress/author-turned-investigative reporter reveals what everyone from pal Jennifer Lopez to co-star Kevin James felt about her former religion and shares the memory of an awkward phone conversation she once had with the CBS chief at the 'Mission: Impossible' star's behest.
A&E's legal department is no doubt burning the midnight oil to usher its latest series, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, on-air. The network has already received multiple threatening letters from the Church of Scientology, in which the show's host, Leah Remini, is described as a "has-been actress" and "spoiled, entitled diva." A defiant Remini, meanwhile, responded by having her attorney send a letter to the church demanding it retract the letters and pay her $1.5 million in compensation.
That the church objects to the eight-part series is hardly a surprise. It sees the 46-year-old King of Queens star who documented her flight from the church in the 2015 best-seller Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology turn investigative journalist as she documents "shocking stories of abuse, heartbreak and harassment" alleged by former church members.
The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Remini ahead of the show's premiere Tuesday, addressing everything from church accusations that she is only "in it for the money" ("Are they going to give me back my $3 million?") to an extremely awkward phone conversation she once had with CBS chief Leslie Moonves at Tom Cruise's behest.
A&E received a lot of aggressive pushback from the Church of Scientology regarding Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. How close did the network come to pulling it?
I dont know how close they came to pulling the show. They certainly werent letting on to me that they were thinking about that. But Im sure that this is the first network

There is an interesting story about Clinton and Travolta about the time of Primary Colors. Involving Germany and good ole Sandy Berger.
scientology has been protected.
S-s-s-s-o-o-o-o NOT GUILTY!
From the article:
“Is Scientology a cult? Did the church brainwash you?
Yes. Scientology is a brainwashing proposition from the very first book that you read in [church doctrine] Dianetics, where L. Ron Hubbard positions himself as a college-educated person, which he wasnt; a nuclear physicist, which he wasnt; and a decorated military man, which he wasnt. Also important is that he claims that Scientology and Dianetics is a proven science. So when youre indoctrinated when youre very young, as I was, and all the information that you receive is from Scientology, and youre not allowed to look at other things because youre penalized for doing that, yes, that is the way cults work. They cut you off from information from the outside world and they start to sequester you by saying everybody else is your enemy. That is another way that cults work. It satisfies all the checkmarks for what a cult is and what brainwashing is.”
Truly one of the best episodes!
With the Democrat Party it’s called “The Plantation”.
“Are they going to give me back my $3 million?”
I despise the CoS, but this is gonna fall under “caveat emptor”.
“It is so full of nonsense that anyone with half a brain would reject it.”
Certainly, if they told people all the nonsense up front. However, they are more clever than that. The only reveal the more reasonable elements at first. By the time you get any hints of the far out sci fi stories, you have already invested tens of thousands of dollars in the “church”, broken off ties with family members, and they have a file with confessions of all your life’s indiscretions to blackmail you with.
So even though most people probably do think it is hogwash when they get the full picture, there are plenty of reasons to keep them stuck in the group even after that point.
That is why it is so popular in Hollywood.
I think it was Andrew Breitbart, when he was promoting his Hollywood book, he said they got a pre-publication call from Cruise’s people threatening legal action over any homosexual mentions, so Breitbart said he did a “global search and replace” on “Tom Cruise” to “the heterosexual Tom Cruise”.
They go after college & high school kids, of course, being that many young people can fall for their nonsense.
“I could put up with the voice.”
I have the ball gag I’ve been saving for Megyn Kelly.
That, and Scientology deliberately targets wannabe "stars" since those are the types that need external support from all the rejections that they experience when "failing" to get callbacks from all the casting calls they must chase after.
And when they get lucky, Scientology benefits in many ways.
It was reported that Cruise, on at least one set, had invited the recruiting arm of Scientology to offer "free" massages, weirding out the saner cast and crew.
I always liked Leah Remini.
Some episodes of King of Queens are so good!
Kevin can't eat it or smoke it, so probably he doesn't have much of an opinion.
And that, children, is why you don't pester people who buy ink by the barrel and bytes by the trillions.
There is currently a movie on Netflix entitled “True Memoirs of an International Assassin” and it’s pretty funny. Of course I thought “Mall Cop” was funny but I like my humor low brow.
For a big man, Kevin James is attractive.
I think so, anyway.
You can bet I’m watching. That, ahem, “church” is a cult in every sense of the word. Saw a show on Discovery ID about a top level member leaving and the goons still intimidate him to this day. Reminds me of Jim Jones.......same scenario....imho.
King of Queens was halarious. Still comes on here and we still watch it........;)
#23 and the democrats always want you to give them money.
