The mother of an autistic boy claims her son was disqualified from a swimming final because he swam too fast.
Rory Logan, nine, was competing in the Special Olympics Regional finals in Bangor, north Wales, and won the 50 metres race in 53.15 seconds a personal best and smashing his heat time of one minute and three seconds.
However, when it came to the medal ceremony, Rory, from County Antrim, was simply given a ribbon for participating instead of the gold he was expecting.
Now mum Briony claims that officials told her that he didnt get a medal because he was too fast for the race.

For some reason, politically correct leftists don’t seem to like kids with autism.

Special Olympics are for kids with Down Syndrome or similar conditions.
Not autism where there are no physical issues.

This reminds me, who was that girl, Misty something, who swam so well in the 2012 Olympics, and then parents complained about her being on the swim team when she went back to college? They said she was too good and “it’s not FAIR!!”

Special Olympics eligibility requirements specify the participant must be intellectually disabled and at least 8 years old.

I’m wondering if this boy’s medication for his autism gives him an advantage? Just bringing in another possible side of the issue.

    No.
Special Olympics are for kids with Down Syndrome, not autism.
Kids with autism have no physical issues, nor are they intellectually challenged.
The kid should not be in the competition.
It’s analogous to Trans women (i.e. Men) competing in female sports and always winning.

“They believe they should have been aborted.”
They certainly believe the Down Syndrome kids should have been.
Jocelyn Elders said as much directly back in the day.

    Yeah.
Not sure why an autistic kid would be in them.
Unless he is more than just autistic, but I doubt he would dominate otherwise.

Olympic level swimming requires SO MUCH prep and commitment, and it doesn't have the pot of gold at the end that basketball or golf have. She more than earned the perk of a swimming scholarship, assuming she got one. The school swim program likely attracts more donations if they have the best female swimmer in the world.

Well, they should have decided that before they let him in the race. How awful for the poor kid. What a message to send.

The award stand was not the place to make this call. If they let him in to compete, then they should give him the award when he wins.
