Got that right. Cold place, maybe inviting to aliens.

I would sure enjoy a tour of the interior. The exterior is really amazing.
Yep, just stunning.
Looks like the old White Front stores
Derided as gauche by some and apparently the architect Lautner didn’t like the interior appointments and distanced himself from the home. Maybe I’m just low brow but it looks really cool and pretty tasteful to me. I’d like to know how they poured the concrete brim. Just making the forms for that must be been quite a project. Something about outdoor fireplaces is just cool.
Does it fly?
LOL! Took a second...
I’d hate to see what an earthquake would do to that place.
Nope...
Third paragraph...
However, the new owner, reported to be investor Ron Burkle - worth an estimated $1.54 billion, snapped it up at a bargain $13 million.
It’s already stood up to several above 5.0.
I prefer Lautner’s Arango house in Acapulco.

Great post, Ben. What magnificent spatial art in a “home”.
LMAO ..... Oh no “No Bacon” !
I missed the interior views, as well.
Observation through the outside windows fairly scream of entertainment “space”, but knowing the Hopes were devout Catholics, fine family people and abundantly charitable tells me that the visible spaces were used for functions and entertainment, almost as a 5 Star Hotel lobby might offer.
However, I am convinced there were far more intimate spaces for living day to day, in such a dwelling as this. The twelve bedrooms did not all have to serve as “bedrooms”. With Bob’s wealth, he could convert rooms on a daily basis if needed, from one use to another. At least, I would hope there were more suitable family spaces somewhere in there.
I enjoyed the story very much, Ben!
I like it..Looks like a performing arts center
Worth every dime of the $25mil.
Stupidist thing I’ve ever seen. Market agrees. Demo it.
Well you don’t build these houses with resale in mind. I’m sure Bob doesn’t mind right now.
I guess I waited too long to make a better offer.
Oh well.
