Why Are Trump's Sec of State options so limited?!
Vanity

I have heard the same 4 or 5 names being thrown around. Are we really that lacking in qualified people?! There must be hundreds Trump can consider! Would be better if from outside the beltway anyway. What is the deal?

Donald Trump has alot of experience picking talented people and building dreams. He also knows when to fire people. I trusted him with his first excellent pick, Michael Pence. Pray without ceasing that God will guide them to lead us, protecting and defending them from all enemies.

It is overall a legitimate question. Romney isn’t best suited for State. He doesn’t have a huge history of travelling the world.

I know something of State and I can assure you all the starting point needed to reform the place is to change recruiting tests and screens. The screens bring in a certain kind of person and that kind of person tends to be English Lit majors or Sociology types.

The screens seek to emphasize compromise and “cultural immersion” and damn near nothing at all about “US NATIONAL INTERESTS”. They recruit people from day one who want 90% to understand the other guy and 10% to advance their own cause.

Romney lived out of the country on his Mormon mission, but there must be a zillion senior executives at corporations who rose in their company by running overseas operations in various places.

Can’t see why the choices would be so few.

I’ve had the same thought.

There are some interesting posts on the thread that may partially answer it...foreign policy guys were strongly opposed to him, he’s got to deal with the McCains and Grahams in the party etc.

I just can’t imagine it’s down to Rudy, Romney or Bolton.
