that’s good stuff. I’ve been into many Mexican restaurants that have some art like that hanging on their walls which I’ve admired and I’ve seen local painters at art shows who are just “regular Joes” but some are really good. Personally I like the photorealism artists because of the effort they put into it but I enjoy different styes as long as its art and not just objects thrown together with a plaque on it by someone who has no business being an artist. If you’re going to be an artist at least try to create art and put a little brain power into it right? I know, ?eye of the beholder”, but obviously some are blind...lol

The ones that are not blind are cross eyed.

A train wreck recorded and redistributed as “Music” would be more euphonius than what humans create these days. Sound is much worsened than merely variously reflected light blots.

Darn it! I blew one of those out of my nose and washed it down the drain not two minutes ago.

I feel like such a fool...

Why?

Because artist got bored. There are only so many times you want to paint a photo-realistic plate of food.

Artist started thinking about form in its pure sense, color in its pure sense, and placement in the same.

Basically art became thought experiments without the need to make it actually look like something. Strip away the perfectly rendered fruit and landscape, and let these deconstructed elements be what the viewer ultimately spends their time contemplating.

Problem is that the incredible work of the Impressionists, and other movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries have been misunderstood by artists later on as an excuse to make what is utter crap with an artist statement.

We went from perfectly rendered images that required little explanation, to Impressionism that left the viewer to create their own meaning, to the slock of the past 30 years that requires a book to even remotely get why the hell a room full of empty beer cans is a thing.

I blame the Dadaists. They made art safe for people that should be in a padded cell.

“Bohemians.

These Bohemians, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Williams, and their seven children, Biff, Tina, Sparky, Louise, Tuffy, Mickey, and Biff Number Two, lived in a notorious artist’s colony and planned community.

Naturally, the bohemian’s existence thrived on creativity. Early in the morning, Mrs. Williams would rise and create breakfast. Then, Mr. Williams, inspired by his wife’s limitless energy, would rush off to a special room and create tiny hairs in a sink. The children would create things, too. But being temperamental artists, they would often flush them away without a second thought.

But the bohemians’ creativity didn’t stop there. Mr. Williams would then rush off downtown and create reams and reams of papers with numbers on them and send them out to other Bohemians who would create special checks to send to him with figures like $7.27written on them.

At home, the children would be creating unusual music, using only their voices to combine in avant-garde, atonal melodies.

Yes, these were the bohemians. A seething hot-bed of rebellion - the artists, the creators of all things that lie between good and bad.”

Years ago when I was a student at Glassel Art School in Houston a woman in my classes showed no talent or ability to draw or paint. After weeks of doing things that could have been done by a .2 nd grade child she discovered abstract art and she started entering art shows and winning acclaim. It was sad for me to watch.

At least they were reacting to the past. By the late Sixties, anyone male could get through art school in a major University because the instructors wanted to keep them out of Vietnam. Didn’t matter what they produced, it got a passing grade. Teachers admitted as much.

I once submitted a portfolio in a drawing class where the instructor paged though muttering: “This will sell. This will sell.”, then gave me a “C’ and a sneer. The pride of place in his office went to a long, narrow piece of butcher paper closely covered with a pencil scribble from border to border. I asked what it was and was told it was one of the portfolio pieces kept by the University from one of the top graduate students (who would go on to teach).

The entire system encouraged this sort of presentation. If you preferred any sort of realism, the work was labeled ‘illustration’ or ‘commercial. Both were pejorative.

Our instructor at Glassel Art School took the class to an exhibit that he thought was wonderful. It was dead tree limbs propped up, and with rubber chickens hanging from them.

That is when I decided that I had better things to do than take classes there.

Because liberals control the art scene - and the master whom they blindly serve wants us to reject beauty.

True artists are truth tellers and instigators and they make you think. Can't be having that, can we? Art is assigned its value by art critics. Control the art critics and you control the artists. Control the artists you control the thinking of modern society - or even if there is going to be any thinking going on. Look at our dumbed down "modern" society and tell me we have progressed from what we had a hundred years ago.

Art critics are easily controlled, or actually, easily created once you control the publishing industry. If you own a few of the right magazines and journals you control which critics get published and which "artists" are promoted. Who owns these magazines?

Bouguereau is awesome.

But once photography advanced to a certain level, the desire for photorealistic paintings naturally waned - except in the fantasy/sci-fi genre, where painting the impossible still mattered.

Modern Art is yet another Communist assault on Western Civilization, an attempt to sneer at standards by elevating garbage. But there is hope for a comeback, as right now they are all too busy sneering at Trump to bother much with painting :)
