Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, late Friday issued a glowing statement about Sen. Jeff Sessions' nomination to become attorney general, a positive sign for the Alabama Republican's path to confirmation.
With Republicans retaining only a narrow three-seat majority after the election, the Trump transition team is keeping a close watch on the reaction from the few centrist-leaning Republicans, such as Collins.

With Collins on board, Sessions' appointment faces a much easier path to confirmation with Senate Republicans from the Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to more independent-minded Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., all indicating their early support.
Republicans appear to have the necessary 51 votes confirm Sessions unless any new information surfaces.
Do not trust Collins, ever!
Dont forget the joe munchkin, west virginny.
All over but the Dem crying
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) says he’s supporting President-elect Donald Trump’s pick of Sessions, journalist Salena Zito tweeted Friday afternoon.
...this is why, in most cases, RINOs are still better than Dems. When they get real RINO, as in Lincoln Chaffee, then they are no better than Dems. But if RINOs are willing to come out like this for a good man, they do (still) have some value to us.
I know, I know !
Wow...Collins finally did the right thing!
Don’t forget DEMOCRAT Manchin has also made it clear that he’s on board. The Dems are quickly running out of options to stop Sessions...and with him, their entire house of cards.
He will get around 60 votes most likely, but confirmation hearings will be a real circus
What if the rats filibuster the nomination? They managed to do it with judicial noms, wonder if they’ll try it with cabinet noms.
I’d be willing to bet Trump’s already placed a call to schumer...
The "information" that "surfaced" (was dredged from the slime) had zero credibility and flew in the face of his actual actions.
I guess they’re saying if the liberal Republican senator from Maine, Ms. Collins supports him, he’s a shoo-in. Or put another way, being the most likely senator to throw up a roadblock, this suggests she will not.
“Wow...Collins finally did the right thing!”
She has in the past, quite a few times (after all, she was there during the Obamacare votes). Still much better than a Dem in that seat.
The Dems need 50 votes to filibuster (i.e., there is no filibuster) - THANK YOU, Harry Reid.
Flake needs to removed in 2018.
Unlikely, because AZ likes Cheap Labor Express Republicans as much as South Carolina.
Well supposedly he did call a black colleague boy one time about 40 years ago. And he said the only problem with the KKK is they used too many drugs.
The Democraps have no power.
Sessions can go after all the Pizza orders and they know it.
Color me surprised.
