I don’t often eat anything on that list usually...a few ritz crackers now and then, and that’s probably once every 3 or 4 years...
I grow a lot of my own stuff, probably not enough, but I don’t trust Monsanto at all. Who was Obama’s largest corporate campaign contributor in his 2008 run? Monsanto. He put 3 or 4 Monsanto people in government positions, including head of FDA and USDA if I remember correctly. Which is why they changed labeling on organic foods not long afterward to allow more chemicals and still retain the organic label.
The question has been asked how could they bury the story? Advertising revenue. if you count commercials, you;ll find most TV networks run the most ads by a small few industries. Pharmaceuticals are probably number one, then insurance, food and auto manufacturers tend to be the most common.
So if Monsanto simply calls up the CEOs of 3 or 4 food companies and says get XYZ network to kill this story, the food company calls up the network CEO and says kill the story or we pull our advertising. There goes at least 30% of that network’s revenue for the year.
Why do you think Vioxx killed at least 10,000 people and was still being sold 5 years after Merckk knew it, and you never heard about it on the news? My sister was taking it, she found out from a friend who stumbled into an article online, not even her doctor told her Vioxx had already killed thousands of people. It was finally pulled off the market, but Merckk had to be forced by the FDA, after they came under public pressure.
I don’t trust any chemical corporation, especially Monsanto, or most of the so called research that says their products are safe. It has been known for along time that the research is often funded by the company itself, and it’s not difficult to set up the research methods to achieve the desired results. That has been done since the 60’s at least.
Maybe the very small amounts listed are not harmful, but how much stays in your system and for how long? I’ve seen reports for years that Roundup is being absorbed into the food. Also, most crops re being genetically modified to be resistant to roundup and genetically modified (GMO) crops have been found to cause a number of health problems.
So even if the level of Roundup or glyphosate are not harmful, the GMO crops grown that end up on your plate still are potentially harmful.
I’ve felt for many years that the chemicals in virtually everything are a leading cause of the serious cancer problems today. About 100 years ago cancer was rare, now it’s one of the top 5 killers in the country. What changed? The industrial revolution and processed foods. Chemicals are virtually everywhere. How many preservatives have been banned due to cancer causing properties? Same for tobacco. It has been used for hundreds of years, so why is it only in the past 75 years we’ve seen a serious increase in cancer among tobacco users? The tobacco itself didn’t change, the level of chemicals used in processing it did.
Chemicals in foods are similar. The processing done on most foods cooks out almost all of the nutritional value, and sometimes color, so chemicals are used to add it back in artificial form. All those things labeled “high in vitamins” actually means high in chemicals.
Diet foods are one of my pet peeves. Do you really think any of that crap will help you lose weight? If it did, you’d quit buying it because you didn’t need it any more correct? So why should they produce anything that actually works to help you lose weight? It’s actually produced for one reason, to keep you buying it. And talk about chemicals...every artificial sweetener I know of has also been found to be harmful, but I haven’t researched Stevia, whatever it’s actually called. I give that one a maybe...everything else is seriously unhealthy. Diet anything should be avoided. Diet, lite, whatever they want to label it.
Others can think whatever they want, I want the least amount of chemicals of any kind in my food. I don’t trust Monsanto, I don’t trust any of the research used to “prove” any of it is actually harmless, DDT was once thought to be harmless. MSG was once thought to be harmless and now that we know that is not true, food companies are coming up with trade names for it so you won’t know it’s in your food still. Know why it’s used in food? MSG is highly addictive. And fattening.
Good article here, I couldn’t find the one I wanted.

How much of this deceptive labeling and research propaganda is present in other areas? Thanks but no thanks, I’ll avoid processed foods as much as I can.
Amen. Whole Foods, and read the labels. I grow some stevia to add a leaf now and then to bitter teas. We started growing our own veggies about 6 years ago, and have been gradually adding a new garden patch every year.
I use dehydration, freezing, and canning. I don’t use any chemicals or pesticides. Growing your own “organic” veggies and fruits is the safest way to go, and cheaper too.
LOL. I eat closer to the dirt every year, as hubby builds a new garden patch every year to grow more stuff. Pretty soon there will be no backyard left, and I guess he’ll start on the side yard.
I don’t spray dandelions. I let them grow. They will be good food forage for greens when SHTF. LOL
I only grow a few things, roma tomatoes, Tabasco and Habanero peppers, garlic, carrots, asparagus, cantaloupes...need to get busy and try a fall garden, maybe some lettuce and cabbage or broccoli too.
All organic, I’ve never used any pesticides or commercial fertilizers in this yard for 30 years. Mulch and cow manure, best fertilizer ever.
Is this the same girl who whined about the lack of pumpkin in pumpkin spice? Even as pumpkin spice in no way implies there is pumpkin content, since pumpkin is not a spice.
I have no idea.
Yeah, and just imagine, if you express the value as parts per trillion, the number is even scarier. It is 1,125,300 ppt.
Yep, that’s what we do too. Hubby sometimes strays, but all my beds are chemical free. I use cover crops, rotation, and compost for the most part. Have occasionally used blood meal, bone meal, and Epsom salts.
I have some lettuce, spinach, endive, and garlic going right now. Had to use a row cover to protect from the weather. We are growing winter rye and hairy vetch for the cover crops this year. We have a lot of potatoes, garlic, and beans - coons got the corn.
Hubby planted mostly Roma’s this year, but he used jiffy mix, and they were scraggly and didn’t ever recover even when he transplanted them. So I bought 3 plants from Walmart to grow in buckets. Lucky I also had some volunteers come up in a flower bed, so I have had tomatoes all summer, but not enough to can, dry, or freeze.
Parts per billion is a teeny tiny amount.
wait til she finfs out all those foods contain dihydrogen monoxide.
as for cancer... well, I figure the alternative to chemicals that increase the shelf life of food is mass starvation for the poor...
so do you want to be poisoned by chemicals or die of global warming?
Cancer was rare 100 years ago.
And 150 years ago, people routinely died after surgery, because most doctors didn’t wash their hands. Doctor Ignas Semmelweiss was the first doctor to investigate childbed fever, and discovered that medical care (lack of sanitation) killed women having children. He was fired, sent to a mental hospital, and died there of sepsis for his efforts.
So never assume we know the whole truth about the human body. We do know that humans can be ignorant, stubborn, and greedy.
What fun is science when you can PANIC instead?
I heard it will quickly reach 1000%. DERP!
I'm glad the chemicals helped you grow a new one.
I don't believe you. They don't appear on the top 20 list.... here.
Or in this list of PAC contributions here.
“Ill avoid processed foods as much as I can.”
I went to a Trader Joe’s ages ago, just to check them out. All of my hippy-dippy friends were touting the benefits of shopping there.
Um...it was nearly ALL processed foods, but in more eco-friendly packaging!
Absolutely no difference (other than a higher price for the naive) than a regular grocery store!
Just shop the perimeter of a grocery store, but STILL read the labels. Works for me. :)
Good! The less lawn, the better, IMHO! Mainly that’s because mowing is MY job around here! :)
In 1916, average life expectancy was 49.6 for men, 54.3 for women.
Here were the top 5 causes of death in 1916.
Diseases of the heart 111,944
Pneumonia (all forms) and influenza 109,335
Tuberculosis (all forms) 92,688
Nephritis (all forms) 69,066
Intracranial lesions of vascular origin 63,394

1916 US population was 102 million.
The longer you live, the more likely you are to get cancer.
Linear, I’ll meet your call and raise you another bowl of Cheerios.
