How does one kill crazy ants (tawny ants) here in the South Central Texas region?

How does one kill crazy ants in a do-it-yourself way? We've put down Boric Acid and flea spray, both of which kill them. But, they keep coming back by the thousands. Any ideas?

ammonia and chlorine bleach together make chlorine gas, which can ruin your whole day.

Understatement of the year! Lol.

Spread diatomaceous earth around their holes. It’s cheap and non poisonous. I don’t know about your variety of ants but kt takes care of the fire ants here and the sugar ants, too. It’s not instant.

what i found helpful is to catch each and and neuter them one by one- sure it takes a long time, but it’s well worth the effort

Mix 1 to 1 parts Baking soda and confectioners sugar. place a bit, ( a teaspoon or two), in can lids and set them in the center of the ant activity.

When ants take the sugar they will get some of the baking soda too. The baking soda produces gas in their systems. Ants can not fart so the gas builds up and they explode.

Simple, easy and inexpensive.

I learned how to make it online, before 9/11. If I tried to look it up now, I’d probably be on a government watch list.

The chlorine gas is heavier than air. it displaces the air in the ant mound

The Amdro product I used (and found worthless) was the Amdro Ant Block, so I have no experience with their fire ant product (thankfully we don’t have fire ants around here). That stuff may work very well.

you freepers are hysterical, we have nuclear device , napalm, kerosene and a match I haven’t read them all but TNT has not been listed yet. There were a few other suggestions but I cannot go back to the first one and catch them all...Although my dad used dynamite to get rid of tree trunks but he was an old timer, passed on at 88, still driving his TBird and living in his apartment..at 88 he still was amazed at the old geezers that lived in the apartment..

Call a local pest control outfit and have them deal with it. It is well worth the small cost to obtain peace of mind. Ants are tough to control takes a multi-pronged approach.

No doubt. But I still would remain far away until the reaction stopped and the gas dissipated. I don’t care much for anything messin’ with my lungs.

I had ant problems all the time I was in California. Little tiny red ones that I think are called "Argentine" ants. The only ant bait that ever worked on them was something called "Enforcer." According to the literature, ants invade houses to get whatever nutrient they can't get from the natural environment; so depending on what this is, different kinds of baits are needed.

Amdro Ant Block.

It works on every kind of Ant.

Sprinkle the granules, they actively take it back to the nest...and the next day they are gone. Best stuff I’ve ever used on ants of all kinds.
