Vanity - Buy American

Well, we did it. We beat the Democrats, and got a President who will bring our jobs back. Now, what can we do to help?

Buy American.

I know, I know, you can save $.10 by buying a foreign made pen, but where will that savings go? It will create jobs for workers in other countries, whose taxes will pay for their infrastructure, military, space program, and benefits.

That pen may have cost more if it was made in the USA, but what you get for that extra $.10 is American workers paying taxes to pay for our infrastructure, military, space program, and benefits, and less government dependents collecting that money. Isn't that more important than that $.10 you would have saved on that foreign made pen, especially now that our candidate is President Elect?

For those of you who don't want to buy UAW made cars, I understand. I had to hold my nose over the UAW label when I bought my last car too, especially after Obama had just bailed the UAW out at everyone else' expense. If you don't want to go that route, there are plenty of non-UAW choices. Hyundai builds many of their cars in Georgia, who went red and helped Trump get elected yesterday. There are other choices, and as another Freeper suggested, if you want to keep profits in the country, then buy stock in the company you buy the cars from. Then, some of those profits come back to you.

I understand this over simplifies the issue, but the point remains. Any jobs we can keep in the country adds to the tax base paying for the rebuilding we voted for, and every American made part helps.

We wanted a chance to get our country back, and we have it. Now, it's up to us to keep it.

It is physically impossible to “Buy American” today.

Every tangible durable good has multiple foreign parts and assembly labor.

In fact, the chances are very good that a Honda or Mazda is more American than a Ford.

This is tilting at windmills and pretty much pointless.

Well I will try, make sure it’s good quality and I’ll pay some more. Makes up for lower taxes hopefully. But we better make it good bc I’m all for free and fair competition.

Buying American food would seem to be logical. Who wants to eat food processed or worse in China?

I understand and accept your point, but if only 50% of the parts in a product are American made, those are still parts made by workers that are paying into our infrastructure instead of someone else's.

And I refer you to my comments about foreign makes that are made in the US. Again, we agree.

Don’t forget about guys like me. I have a small fabrication and CNC shop. There’s plenty of American products to buy. Granted, it is difficult to buy anything mass produced but it’s out there.

I always read the label, if it says ‘made in china’ I won’t buy it. I wanted a new pair of boots, ended up with a pair of Corcoran dress boots, marked Made In USA...

That's sometimes easier said than done. Try to find a tomato in a supermarket--even in one that's upscale like Whole Foods--that doesn't come from Mexico.

What products do you make? FReepmail me - if I have a need for what you sell, I’d rather give you my biz rather than a Chicom.

So what brand of pens is made in the USA?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Several years ago I bought a Chinese screw-cutting metal lathe. 7x10 from Harbor Freight. Cost me about $370, with a 20% discount, and not including sales tax. Would be about $450 today. The nearest US-made equivalent was $10,000.00 at the time.

I feel a lot more motivated to invest and spend here than I would have if Hillary won.

Good point. My spending will go up starting January 20, 2017, but not before. I do not want the usurper to get credit for the economic boom from Trump’s election.

I will be buying American-made products from Americans who supported Trump. I will be permanently boycotting leftists - shunning them as people and ignoring their stores/services. There are exceptions. I’ll buy Israeli products too, for example.
