Several years ago I bought a Chinese screw-cutting metal lathe. 7x10 from Harbor Freight. Cost me about $370, with a 20% discount, and not including sales tax. Would be about $450 today. The nearest US-made equivalent was $10,000.00 at the time.
I used that as an example to illustrate my point. Substitute paint brushes, notepads, or anything else.

I'd like to look closer at this example. Can you point us to links showing the screw-cutting metal lathe you bought and the comparable American made product? As you said, inquiring minds want to know.:)
Most people do not buy lathes. Your anecdotal evidence is moot, pointless and stupid.
