I have severe shoulder pain, especially when using either A. an overhand throwing motion or, B. reaching behind my back. I've been to an orthopedic doctor. He did x-rays and said that I did have arthritis. He further examined me and said that I didn't have a torn rotator cuff, tendonitis, or bursitis. He gave me a cortisone shot into one of my shoulder joints that hurt like hell, but did help. I then went to a chiropractor and he suggested that I may have a pinched nerve in my neck. I've been going to therapy with him 3 times a week for 3 weeks now, with no relief whatsoever. OTC pain meds don't help in the slightest, and anything stronger causes me to projectile vomit. I've had this pain since June. I didn't have any kind of injury. I'm 40 years old. Please help.
.....frozen shoulder syndrome.... Get therapy.... Or wait to get surgery in which you’ll need therapy anyway.....
...and the good news is...you’re other shoulder will show the same problem within 18 months...
BEEN THERE,DONE THAT...TAKE CARE IF IT EARLY!
Get a little traction machine. Pulls on the neck, separating the vertebrae, relieving the pinched nerve. Only thing that worked for me. Worked in a couple of days.
Almost all chronic pain is due to trigger points in muscles (don't let cutters or drug pushers tell you otherwise). Trigger points can be relieved -- by yourself, at home -- through the techniques in this book.
I have similar pain. I can’t tie apron strings around my back. ( I work in the Walmart bakery ) I take a high dosage of Lipitor which I have read may be the problem. Pain in my bones and larger muscles.
The chiropractor I went to was really good. Had a nerve pinch due to a bulged disc in my neck. It was so bad I couldn’t move my head at all and had numbness in my left arm. The first week was three visits with the electrodes on my neck and shoulder with my head in a sling like thing that applied traction to my neck. They did the manipulation starting the second week. Overall it was ten sessions in five weeks, and now going on six years since the treatment I havnt had an issue.
But I am passing 60 years old and not a single pain in my body.
No arthritis. No aspirin pain relievers. No meds. If I live to 90, it will be pain free.
I do middle finger Doctors, figuratively, since procedures pay their bills.
And those are irreversible. That means destructive. I do NOT recommend others, ‘bird the Doc’, but only Preventionists, who have been at it for many years.
But it is sad to see non prevention relatives, slowly succumb.
If a pain happens, Preventionists take care of it and the pains leaves.
Lot's of reading and listening to and loving our body & mind.
Had headaches, EVERYBODY said see a Doc. I researched and it disappeared.
I actually am eager to see how old a body can live pain free. My hopeful hypothesis is until the final few weeks.
If a regressive ailment has taken hold, and prevention has not been part of one’s life,
then Doc's are a good alternative.
God made us that way, I believe, pain free, if we research frantically how to avoid illness.
God gave you the ability to read everything you can. We all die, but prevention works.
Pain meds hide the source. Strike the Root instead.
Prevention learning is the best practice.
Okay, go back to hating, lol. :-)
I see a sports doctor for my rotator cuff problem, but surgery isn't recommended yet. I would have to think twice about any future surgeries as I've already had four abdominal surgeries since 2010, and may have to have more surgery to repair another incisional hernia. My sister-in-law had her rotator cuff operated on, and she had to have a cast on, plus couldn't lay down to sleep for over a month. She had to sleep sitting up on a lounger, which is something I would have a very hard time doing.
Are you on the computer a lot using a traditional mouse? I had horrible pain in my shoulder because I was on the mouse all day for my job. I tried all the medical interventions and nothing worked. Then I heard about track balls (this was quite a few years ago) and tried one out. The Shoulder pain went away quickly. Maybe this would resolve your other pain issues, if this is the case for you. You have my deepest sympathy and hope you can get some relief.
if you have not had a shouler MRI you have a hard time seeing the rotator cuff tear. You dr,, it sounds, made a clinical diagnosis. Can you abduct the upper arm? An arthrogram fails as much as succeeds in showing the tear; Do not be too quick to go to surgery
KT tape. I’ve been using it for a couple months and my shoulder is slowly getting better. The video for applying the tape has four versions for the shoulder. The simple oval seems to work the best for me. Also the Salon pain patches as needed.
If there is no mechanical issue with the shoulder, look thoroughly at the neck. I had similar shoulder pain. Turns out my cancer had returned, metastasis to neck. Tumor surgery (neck dissection 3 zones) cured the shoulder pain immediately. Not saying you have cancer, but the nerves to the shoulder from the neck can and will play havoc if allowed.
Get copies of the xray images. It is your right to have them. They will give them to you on a CD. C-spine xrays don’t include a report on the T-1, unless the radiologist has a sense of morals. Get the report straight from the radiologist. Don’t depend on your doctor. Get all your old xrays. Look for changes in the structure of the vertebrae. Look for lesions. They will show up as white spots. Assume your doctor is a lazy asshole. Most of them are. Demand an MRI. This is your life, fight for it.
Start a notebook. Keep track of things. Bring it with you to your appointments. Ask questions, get answers.
This is how I’ve mitigated my shoulder pain: started sleeping on a softer mattress, don’t sleep on my side, kept my arm at my side as much as possible to not cause shoulder pain.
Did the onset of pain happen shortly after a flu shot in that shoulder?
I had very limited use of my left arm - moving it more than 6 inches or so forward or back caused excruciating pain. I’d wake up several times a night from the pain. I found something called the rotatoreliever online. It was $150. I made my own homemade version with an ace bandage. The first night wearing it, I had no pain. That gave me confidence that the device would work. I ordered it. It came with a money-back guarantee that shoulder pain would disappear in 45 days. It took me 60 days, but I’ve been pain free and have had full range of motion for 5 years. I’ve since lent the device to a couple of other people, and it’s helped them as well.
Good question. An injection given too high up on the arm can cause a lot of pain (shoulder injury related to vaccine administration - SIRVA). The person giving the injection and the patient should be at the same level - both sitting or both standing. It also is more likely to occur when the recipient pulls down their collar/neckline to expose their arm.
The doctor wanted me to go in for surgery, but we had just cleared years of medical debt and I was unwilling to spend any more if I could avoid it.
I have a tendency to sleep on my side, with my arm up or curled around my pillow. When one arm started to really hurt, I overused the other arm and hurt that, as well. What a mess!
Going with the best pillow on the market, changing my sleep patterns, and resting my shoulders as much as possible made a huge difference.
Then I would send you to an aggressive physiotherapist...I am guessing you now have a frozen shoulder from not moving it after the first injury.
the physical therapy will hurt like hell.. but I suspect that will cure you. Maybe also local heat or ultrasound. If that doesn't help you might need an MRI to check for a hidden tear of the rotator cuff.
. you need to take a strong Nsaid like high dose alleve etc... probably you should take it with something like prilosec and watch for ulcers and heartburn. You also might need a short term course of a narcotic to control the pain.
