President Vladimir Putin signed off Thursday on a decree granting Russian citizenship to American action hero actor Steven Seagal, the latest high-profile passport handout to a Western celebrity.

Hollywood star Seagal and judo-loving Kremlin tough guy Putin have struck up a bromance in recent years, with Seagal visiting Russia repeatedly and defending Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

“He was asking quite insistently and over a lengthy period to be granted citizenship,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists. …

I’d rather be a citizen of Upper Volta than Russia.

Why the U.S. (or any other nation) allows dual citizenship is beyond me.

Hey! I used Upper Volta in a post yesterday (I theorized that Upper Volta was one of the countries that hacked into Hillary’s server). I think we need a campaign to bring back Upper Volta.

I got schooled on my post...Upper Volta is now Burkina Faso, which is a serious downgrade in naming in my eyes.

Hey, if Hillary wins (not going to happen) we might want to use the Segal precedent.

Because there’s nothing they can do about it. We have no control over other countries laws. What are we supposed to do to citizens of America if some random place, possibly without the knowledge of said citizen, grants them citizenship?

If that citizen accepts the foreign citizenship, then that citizen should automatically forfeit his U.S. citizenship. At least that's the way I see it.

How do you not accept it? Somebody declares you a citizen you’re a citizen. Most you can do is ignore it.

And that’s just the scenario of having a country run by a jerk. Outside of that life is complicated. People get born in foreign countries, people have foreign parents. Your cut and dry concept only works in video games, out here in reality it just doesn’t wash.

Dual citizenship is a safety valve - a Plan B - in the event that the Land of The Free continues to shut down people’s freedoms. The US has already fallen to 15th or 16th on the list of Most Free Countries and if Hillary becomes President we will be falling even further.

It also represents competition between societies...if the country you are in disrespects it’s people, move elsewhere where liberty and the pursuit of happiness gets a better shot. When I can no longer stand living in California (which will be soon) I can move to Texas or Wyoming.

Similarly when the Gramski-ites, Alinsky-ites and the Globalists have completed their socialist transformation of the USA, I will be ready to move to country that affords me a higher level of freedom.

America is not a piece of real estate that I cling to - it is a fundamental idea that I cling to. If and when the idea is extinguished I will be ready to move on.
