Help me understand how a president can just seemingly have unlimited authority to pardon someone on his staff of just about anything even if there are charges of espionage and treason involved. Especially if THEY are involved themselves.

How can a president pardon an ongoing criminal operation? If he pardons her Wednesday, the criminal operation is still in operation on Thursday.

Has there ever been a challenge to a presidential pardon? I was surprised to hear of Bush’s blanket pardon, more so than Ford’s since Bush was at the end of his term. I think that could have been challenged if Bill Clinton wanted to. I can’t imagine that this was in the founders’ intent. Were there any blanket pardons before Ford’s or did he set the precedent?
Ford set the precedent, he pardoned Nixon before he was charged.
There has been a tug of war within the FBI and between the FBI and DOJ over the entire server gate investigation. I’m sure it will continue.
Keep in mind that if Clinton wins and is subsequently charged and has to step down, we would likely get President Kaine. Trump will be out of the picture if he loses.

It seems to be including blanket pardons and pre-pardons together. I think some of the historical, pre- Ford ones they’re including were of people who were already ‘convicted’ of things like being Confederate soldiers. Similar to Ford, Carter was pardoning before any conviction at a time in his presidency it would be difficult to challenge him.
Significantly, George W. Bush did not pre pardon any in his administration. Whether that was because of the legal controversy that would entail or not is probably known only to him.
What I take away from the article - thanks for posting it - is that there is potentially vitriolic legal controversy in doing this, particularly at the end of a term. It would be interesting to see what knowledgable lawyers would do should the Kenyan think of trying it.
BS. He can simply pardon her for whatever federal crimes she may or may not have committed. There is no need for her actually to have been charged.
