An AR-15 that was used as a photo prop for a Saturday wedding in Laurel Hill was taken from the owner's vehicle over the weekend.
The Crestview man told Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputies that he left his car unlocked for a period of time during the event.
The gun is one of at least two taken from unlocked vehicles in north Okaloosa County in the last few days.
The man said that the DPMS AR-15 was valued at about $1,000 with a $500 scope. He discovered it missing Sunday.
There were no signs of forced entry to the vehicle.
Michele Nicholson, spokeswoman for the OCSO, said that people leaving guns in unlocked vehicles is an "ongoing, very serious issue."
"It's almost gotten to be a weekly occurrence," Nicholson said. "It's so common."
Less common is the practice of using guns as a photo prop during bridal festivities.
Crestview photographer, Tom Warriner, who has been shooting weddings in the area for 25 years, said hed never been asked to shoot a wedding that included a gun.
He did, however, photograph a wedding in Destin where the groom pulled out his switchblade to cut the cake.
When we got to the reception, no one could find a knife to cut the cake with, he recalled. He pulled a switchblade out of his pocket.
I dont know what else that knife had been cutting, he added. I didnt eat a piece.
Boating accident?

People sure are... careless these days.
What’s a wedding reception without a cockfight and Sumo fat suit wrestling??
Boring, that’s what.
Insurance fraud?
If we only had national universal background checks.......
Same exact thing happened to mine. It must be going around.
Somehow I’m not surprised to hear that a gun would be used as a wedding prop in Laurel Hill.
$1500.00 “prop” - that’s a heckuva prop.
Times are really changing. In my day, weddings were conducted with shotguns.
Dumb@zz
I’m guessing this was Florida.
Many Appalachian weddings feature guns, cammo and 4 wheelers(pronounced “Fer Willers”). It’s not uncommon to hear “Boy, shut yer GD mouth. The preacher is prayin’”.
