Aww, poor little snowflake. Give the bully a pat on the head and a tootsie roll. That’s punishment enough for any kid. He’ll be able to look at his participation ribbon with pride.
My middle son plays junior high free safety at a large champion level southern public school
The moms are who screw it all up
Plain and simple
Fortunately by high school their influence is hugely diminished
That’s already happening by junior high but it’s in progress
Honestly who has emasculated boys
Women controlling younger aged education culture
Imposing their insecurities on boys
I ain’t backing down I’ve been watching this silliness 12 years now
I’m and old dad...they don’t mess with me
Right on, the coach should mirror home values. Hmmm maybe it’s the home values that need adjustments.
“I’ve been a youth football coach for 20 years.”
Then you should have known the kid was suppose to get a trophy not laps!!! /major sarc
This took place in Connecticut, wonder if that is significant.
When I coached the kids were great but their parents were terrible. Hint to parents. Don't go to practices let the coach coach.
Hey! Don’t blame this woman! I love a good old fashion football game. GO PATRIOTS!
Yours truly coaches football players of the same age also in Connecticut and can reassure all Freepers that punishment laps are still very much part of the mix. In fact, it was only last night that one of our young heroes was repeatedly distracting his teammates with silly talk of dangerous clowns despite being told to stop doing so, and so I responded by sending him on his merry way around the field so that he could regain his focus and consider the error of his ways, and to set an example for the others. I have never even heard of a football coach who completely rules out additional exercise as a punishment / attention-getter.
Stopped trophies at 8 years old. Stop “Snacks” then too. You playing football? You can bring your own water.
True Story: Mom has bad day, witnesses car accident on the way to bringing her son to practice.
Me and my friend are coaching. Great guy. We’re having fun with the kids - we’re smacking helmets, shoulder pads when they do a good job, great technique. He smacked a few kids on the butt.
Mother goes to League Official - “He’s touching the kids too much” League official who was at the practice field calls us over: Says to Mother: What are you telling me? “He’s touching the kids too much”. Touching?? These are two of the best coaches I know. What are you telling me?
She gave up, went away crying and then pulled her son from the team. The next day, kids Dad called me to apologize and put the kid back on the team.
League Official says to me: “You just learned the hard way to organize your practices as far away as possible from the Motherss”
why on earth did they do that? I thought they hated bullying
Oh wait.. probably not the RIGHT KIND of bullying
Had s similar issue when I was playing youth soccer.
Coach had a rule that if you did not make it to at least one of three practices during the week....you could not play on Sunday.
We had a history of success under this coach including a 2nd place finish (we were firced to move up a division after 1st 4 games of season 1 and our 4 wins were made into ties for the standings due to dominance) and a championship in season 2.
Early in season this kid missed all three practices one week. He had no excuse for missing the 1st two but was at a church sponsored snow sledding event for practice three.
Coach said he could not play per his rules.
Family complained that he was being discriminated against due to his religious activity (snow sledding.)
League caved to threat of lawsuit and coach would not cave in....
We lost our coach and the team fell apart.
RIP the Spanaway Shinbusters!
That is why when you have a club or select team you may recruit a couple of good players but the rest of the team you are recruiting parents.
Yep ladders is what we called them too. Only ours were a bit different. Jog up sideline for 10 yards, sprint accross the field, jog up to the 20 and sprint across. Repeat until you get back to where you started or until coach tells you to stop.
The one I hated the worse was laying on your back and holding your heels 6” off the ground until coach said stop. Those could really kick your butt or back I should say.
“You can’t torment our children this way. They’ll act out when they get to adulthood and point back and say the reason they robbed that old person in a wheelchair is because my coach made me run laps for bullying”
It is all part of the left’s destruction of Law and ORDER. I played sports many years ago. Running laps was part of any and all sports I played except fencing.
That’s a toughie. At my age, it’s pay to play (no political pun intended) so parents can and do gripe about playing time. I get that. Thankfully, at the age I coach, we’ve weeded out all the clover pickers and the kids actually want to be there.
In the case of football, I would cut back playing time if the kid missed too much of the game plan. Or, the league has rules about hitting if you miss two weeks of practice. CCD often conflicts with practices and gets often get hammered with homework. MOST parents get it.
What I would say here, is that it is often times more the fault of the parent than the kid. I try to consider that when I’m thinking about playing time.
Good grief!
In some areas they still give out trophies, you know the things Rush always harps about. Every kid gets one at end of season. I know in my area all the kids do. Personally I don’t care, whatever.
As for the “touching” clearly she does not understand football. I disagree with the water part. There should always be water around. This summer we had a heat wave. Call me a overprotective mom but don’t want heat strokes when you all are out there slamming at each other.
I once had to run laps for showing up with dirty socks.
Correct. We never, ever withhold water. Kids bring plenty of their own and I always have a few jugs in my trunk just in case. I was referring more to Moms arranging a “snack list”.
That goes out when the participation trophies stop. As I said, when you move from Pee Wee football (grades 3 and 4) to the next level.
I expect there was a well worn path circling the humble abode.
