Linda Cohen ESPN just announced on TV. Other reports on SB Nation. Terrible news- terrific young pitcher.
Fernandez was an all star this year. Huge loss.
I don't know if he was motivated to do this by a provision in his contract or just a general concern for his own health and safety, but one of the reports this morning said he had recently given up bike riding for safety reasons.
I just heard no evidence of drugs or alcohol. What did you hear?
I met his wife Laurie in Clermont a few times. Friend used to live out there on her horse farm.
This was reportedly Government Cut, a channel between South Beach and Fisher Island, long rock jetty, very choppy currents.
Not necessarily relevant specifically here, but pro athletes are often young men that are even less mature than their age cohort, and they have unbelievable amounts of money with which to indulge their thrill-seeking. Thus the vague ‘dangerous activities’ clauses. Possibly bike-riding, especially on public streets, is specifically prohibited. A player just might claim ‘fishing’ as a hobby when he buys a speedboat.
That makes sense. The teams have a lot on the line there.
I appreciate the comments.
With your description, I would agree with you.
Oops, was referencing another post. I do agree with you, but the other gave a description of the area involved.
Your description does make it sound rather iffy. Not a good idea at all to be out there late at night. (it would seem to me)
He was 24. At that age many think they are invincible. So sad.
Moon was in last phase, 34% visible.
Not much light from the Moon.
Tragic loss. RIP Jose.
Any night on the water is tricky, but Saturday night especially is a time to avoid. Too much booze and craziness out there.
Yeah, that’ll put a dent in your travel plans.
Thank you.
Sad news. Condolences to his family, the Miami Marlins, and the baseball and sports world.
The one positive thing from that was he was able to play for the 2005 Indians. But sports doesn’t really matter right now.
The video at the link is so heartbreaking to watch. Prayers for his mother and grandmother. So sad.
