16-year-old Hillside High School student Jalen Thompson Johnson was shot and killed early yesterday as he donned a mask, claimed to be a police officer, and tried to kick in the door of a Durham, NC apartment. Unfortunately for Johnston, the homeowner was not only also armed, he was a better shot.
A teen was shot to death while trying to force his way into an apartment in Durham Monday morning, police said. The resident of the apartment was injured in the shooting.
Durham police responded to a report of a shooting at 12:42 a.m. in the 800 block of East Woodcroft Parkway at South Terrace at Auburn Apartments.
Police said that Jalen Thompson Johnson, 16, of Durham, was wearing a mask and was apparently attempting to force entry into an occupied apartment.
Johnson and the man who lived in the home appeared to have exchanged gunfire, according to police. The man in the apartment was shot in the leg and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Youd almost be convinced by how WNCN covered the story that Johnson was the victim here, instead of a violent criminal.
The teenager left dead after the gunfire, Jalen Johnson, was a student at Hillside High School in Durham. The schools principal, Dr. William Logan, said Johnson was a great kid and called his death a loss to our school.
Word about Johnsons death spread quickly via social media and the school worked quickly to provide a way for students to grieve.
Counselors from our team are here to assist the students, Logan said.
ohnson was such a great kid that he committed armed robbery and shot a man during a home invasion while pretending to be a police officer.
The only thing Hillside High School lost when Jalen Johnson died was a criminal threat to the student body.
Fortunately the apartment owner did not fall for Johnsons ruse and was able to defend himself.
Great kids don’t kick down doors and try to murder people. Thank God the homeowner was a better shot then the great kid.
You’re right. Didn’t start to feel really guilty about it till my 40s. Age and wisdom and faith and penance and forgiveness from God.
I had a vending machine route (that’ how i knew how easy it was to break in) and KNEW how hard it was to make a buck and what it felt like to be broken into.
One asks God’s forgiveness, does a penance, asks those you dont even KNOW for forgiveness, and move on.
Is that possible? Asking someone you dont know but wronged for forgiveness?
and yes, breaking in armed is a BIG difference.
According to the current Government officials, and the MSM, and all liberals, these ‘teens’ who can’t afford to get a PICTURE ID can afford to buy a stolen/unregistered gun.
Now a posthumous graduate of the School of Hard No Knocks.
Yes, possible to ask someone you don’t know for forgiveness.
And the lesson from this (IMHO) is to keep one’s mind open, to allow some benefit of doubt to others, when it seems to be black and white situations of right and wrong. Allow for that little leeway of, “I did something stupid myself in the past..”
Let me guess - was he an aspiring rapper and hip-hop artist?
Yep, the online picture I’ve seen of this “great kid” shows this YUTE smugly posing with a handgun tucked into his belt gangsta’ style. Good riddance — this home invasion ended with no loss of innocent life and the average IQ of America increased a bit.
Not to take this thread down a different road, but have you noticed lately that just about every pair of white grandparents portrayed in either print or TV ads, has a mulatto grandchild on their knee?
There’s a magazine ad for some white grandma with bladder control issues, but because she has a certain undergarment, she can freely run around with...her mulatto toddler granddaughter!
There are two white grandparents shown on TV, and again, their mulatto teenage granddaughter is playing with the dog and her tablet computer in the background.
Am I imagining this stuff? Are the advertisers just trying to be Diversity First, or is it the truth of the matter? I NEVER see two black grandparents with a little white kid trying to sell me something, LOL!
And I know I risk sounding like a total jackass, but I’m just wondering if anyone else is noticing the trend? I mean, aren’t we all supposed to be milk chocolate colored the world over by 2050?
Who will we blame the crime statistics on, then? ;)
Besides, I need to keep my controversial postings up, because DU likes to take my posts and post them over there to mock me. They like me! They really, really like me!
*WAVES TO LURKING STALKER*
Great post. And True.
“Jalen’’. Boy those Amish come up with some funny names.
I’ll take “Aspiring Rapper” for 700 Alex.
So are we expecting some type of Black Lives Matter protest for this “great kid”.
No offer of counseling for the man who was forced into a situation where he had to kill a 16 year old?
He was more than justified in doing so but human nature is such that he may likely feel very guilty about it.
I was a juvenile delinquent as well and I do feel guilty for some of the things I did when I was young. I never used a weapon in any of my dumb endeavors and I never broke into houses or burgled cars. I went in the Marines at the age of 19 and have been pretty good ever since.
My older brother broke into a place where was working, after hours, to steal beer and I don’t know what, and was caught. He was probably seventeen at the time (I was a toddler) but I remember watching him and our mom in a deep discussion at the kitchen table. Next time I saw him he was in a Navy uniform fresh out of boot camp, soon headed out to be a torpedo man aboard a Sixth Fleet destroyer. That was how the legal system back then dealt with “good boys” (and novice hoodlums like my brother) who’d gotten on the wrong path. That being said, busting into someone’s occupied home armed isn’t teenage hijinx and back then it would have gotten him just as shot as this “yute”.
You think?
Ah, the mandatory “...counselors are there to assist....” meaningless statement.
What are those “counselors” saying? Perhaps telling the kids that black lives matter?
‘Twould be far better to tell the kids that you invade a home and you’re going to get your Obamahole shot off.
Breaking into a house is on a whole different level. Often home invaders rape and kill those at home. I was no saint as a teen but even then I knew where to draw a line. Never put others in jeopardy.
