People are furious after pictures of a Florida Walmart's 9/11-themed Coke display began to circulate on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
Twitter user Shawn Richard tweeted a picture of the display, which presented Coke Zero in place of Ground Zero and spurred thousands of angry retweets about the beverage company's marketing ploy.
We stopped and stared at it, like oh my God, Richard said, according to BuzzFeed News. Nobody seemed to be noticing it. It wasnt very crowded, and I got the feeling that it had just been assembled. So, we took some pics and went on our way.
Orlando Weekly reports the display has been taken down and Walmart initially approved the design.
In less than two days, the post has more than 2,500 retweets and 4,100 likes.
“Im looking at the display, and I find myself distinctly not outraged.”
I’m trying real hard, too. Can’t even muster a spark of outrage.
It’s not so bad, just hangs heavy for several days. I prefer to remember my son at spontaneous moments. Ceremonies are just a bit much at times.

Wow.
Now you know.
Coke Zero leaves a bad taste.
Agreed. We don't celebrate 9/11. We commemorate it. There's a huge difference.
I believe I covered hoodies in my comments.
Does COKE have some political or social context for you?
The time and place is the issue. I will sell Amway in church if there are sales to be had. I cannot understand the prissy attitude that says business is unseemly.
I think it’s fantastic. Too many have forgotten.
No, 9/11 does. It’s a time of year I remember my apt. turning black with smoke as I rushed to close the windows. It’s the time of year I remember Kristin White, a friend of my husband’s and myself, who perished on Flight 93. It’s the disgusting smell of chemicals burning that came into our home day after day and the destruction of the restaurant where I was had my wedding day luncheon. It was going to my NJ condo and realizing that 700 people from Middletown (two towns over) were incinerated in the twin towers. No, I don’t think of Coke at all.
I would’ve left out the price sign under the banner, but looks good to me otherwise. Clever design.
Sadly, I do. Apparently honest differences of opinion are not tolerated by more here on FR than I care to imagine.
Anti-semite
Anti-merchant
Anti-car salesman
Dem
Muslim
Someone not outraged on 9/11
All because I find 1 adverstising display in poor taste.
Poor snowflake. Here, have a COKE.
It's a tribute to the Twin Towers, headlined by a banner that we'll never forget.
If Coca Cola or Walmart ran a TV commercial with the same message, would that be inappropriate?
If not, how is it different? Both express remembrance of a national tragedy, and hope that we remember them when spending our dollars.
How is it different from a Memorial Day sale?
Remember the Alamo
Someone should knock them..?
..over
People that are offended by this think or say nothing of the desecration of the birth of Jesus Christ with ‘XMAS’ deals or His death by a ‘dozen eggs are buy 1 get 1 free!’ for Easter.
Totally agree, and personally I think someone did a beautiful job with the this.
Especially when it's the terrorists that are getting outraged because we remember it was their people who killed so many Americans on that day.
Same. Was fairly nicely done.
