Isabelle Dinoire, whose image became known world-wide after being given the first ever face transplant after her dog devoured part of her face, has died in France, according to media reports.
Dinoire was left badly disfigured in May 2005 when her Labrador attacked her and ripped off much of her face.
But less than a year later she became known world-wide when she revealed her new face after being given the first ever partial face transplant by surgeons at Amiens hospital. [ ]
But last winter Dinoire became ill after her body rejected a new skin graft. As a result, she lost partial use of her lips. The repeated treatment took its toll and Dinoire developed two different cancers.
She died on April 22nd, 2016, but her death was only announced on Tuesday by the hospital in Amiens.

French hospitals are very busy this time of year; they probably just noticed.
“So she has been dead for over four months, and the hospital only announces it now?”
She had to cast her vote for Hillary first.
She goes through all that, only to die of cancer?
That smell, ripened Brie or a forgotten patient?
Sad news. This woman had a tough life. One hopes she is in a better place. Memory eternal.
A Lab attacked her? Wow. Never would have thought that.
I’m guessing they flooded her body with drugs to keep her “natural” immune system from rejecting her new face.
I hear arthritis drugs weaken peoples natural immune systems as well. I would be afraid to take them.
Since rheumatoid arthritis is a case of the immune system attacking its own body, some physicians would be tempted to use drugs that weaken the immune system indeed.
She endured more than a fair share of pain.
It’s socialized medicine.
Poor girl...really sad...
There was a face-off in the corner.
Anti-rejection drugs can certainly make the patient susceptible to various cancers by virtue of suppressing the immune system. As a kidney/liver transplant patient myself, I am very aware of this and don’t go out without long sleeves and a hat, and watch closely for anything out of the ordinary elsewhere. Sorry to hear this lady went through so much only to have this happen, very sad news.
Thanks for the first classy post. This poor woman got a raw deal from life - we should be sorry for her suffering, and hope that she’s in a better place.
RIP.
