In that part of the world if there wasn’t hunting to give the natives incentives to keep the animals alive. They would be gone.
I traveled in Africa and have seen palaces where that incentive isn’t there. The animals soon disappear.
Why hasn’t Piss Morgan been extradited back to the UK so he can stand charges for criminal phone hacking?
Killing a giraffe is not cool unless absolutely necessary (found sick or lamed) or essential as food. How many documented giraffe attacks on humans?
I couldn’t kill any large animal that wasn’t bothering me at the time. If I see a lion and it goes `burp’, then it isn’t a threat.
Now...cape buffalo are different. Always in a nasty mood, buffs are the Muslims of the animal world. Someone wrote that a cape buffalo looks at you like you owe him money. It can quickly turn into kill or be killed with a buff.
Just my 2 cents. Not an African hunter but a close friend is.
I’m so glad I unfriended all my Brit friends on Facebook. They’d be positively hysterical about this, signing petitions, and boiling American Culture in oil!
Leonardo Da Vinci acquired a giraffe some how, had it put down and dissected it!
Beautiful animal, I must say.
Controlled hunts help to maintain the overall health of many species.
nobody disputes that...well, I guess some do...doesn’t mean they have to post the cull on social media, though...
There's a line.
I agree: big game hunters should avoid social media. Look what happened to the poor dentist with his lion?!
More people should go to, and see for themselves, what conditions prevail in Africa, and a lot of other places, regardless of season. Then, and only then, will they be able to "weigh in' on subjects like these with any modicum of sanity.
It is a truism that travel will broaden one's perspective, and I heartily recommend it...

Capstick is the source for the buff quote.
That’s it, the hunts are doing what is essentially doing some of the game wardens’ work—by culling the herds. Too many critters spoil the soup...
Wow, you’re pretty sick. Putting an animals life above human life. The likes of animal lovers, such as yourself, disgust me to no end.
You have fundamental reading & comprehension difficulties.
Who wouldn’t want to “talk to” Piers alone in a room for 5 minutes?
No witnesses???
You mean that giraffe's not just being friendly and coming close for a cuddle?
Must be alot of vegans on FR. If it is wrong to hunt game to be used as food, the same holds true for raising cows, poultry or anything for the sole purpose of sending them to slaughter-not to mention throwing a hook into the water, reeling in a fish, allow it to suffocate and eat it.
:-)
“I agree with you here. The giraffe killing was needless, simply to satisfy ones vanity. It was simply wasted, not used for food or anything.” — oh you are so sure it wasn’t used for food are you? Giraffe is good eating and it most certainly WAS used for food, fed a lot of locals for sure. And the money it brought in helped ensure funding for anti-poaching efforts, why don’t all you dogooders go donate some money then? No? Well then shut up.
All the large herbivores tend to snack on people's farm crops, and the large carnivores are threats to people.
If there wasn't some valuable aspect to them (like bringing in lots of $$$ from hunting fees), the locals would happily exterminate them. Sending in "environmental agents" to protect endangered species would not work either -- the farmers are so close to barely hanging on that they would happily exterminate the "environmental agents" too.
He has a highly-chequered career background in his many and various employments both here and in the UK.
He is now a hired hack writer working in the U.S. office of a British "news" (tabloid) blog.
Morgan should take a long walk over a short piers...preferably into the Thames.
