LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A false report of gunshots that sent panicked travelers fleeing from Los Angeles International Airport came right after officers with weapons drawn detained a masked man dressed in black and possibly carrying a plastic sword, officials said.
Soon after, hundreds of passengers raced onto streets or the tarmac, causing major flight delays that the airport was still recovering from Monday. Video shows at least six officers confronting the man dressed as the fictional crime fighter Zorro outside Terminal 7 around 8:40 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators were focusing on what prompted the first of several 911 that came from multiple terminals, airport police Officer Rob Pedregon said Monday. The initial 911 call came in Terminal 8 around 8:45 p.m. - about five minutes after officers detained the man dressed as Zorro.

False reports of an active shooter quickly spread, and passengers in five terminals evacuated or pushed through security checkpoints, airport police said.
Officers with rifles stormed the airport but uncovered no evidence of a gunman or shots fired.
The confusion was similar to a false alarm that led to a panicked evacuation two weeks ago at Kennedy Airport in New York, when a boisterous celebration of the Olympics may have been misinterpreted as gunfire, according to authorities.
The Los Angeles scare created a mess, with three terminals shut down, roads closed and flights held in the air and on the ground, but no one was hurt. About 280 flights were delayed, and at least 27 planes were diverted to other airports. Two flights were canceled, airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles said.
Poncho did it.
Zorro? Sounds like a FOX exclusive
A guy in a zorro suit, a "report" of shots fired
a half a dozen cops converge on the guy
And I read the people in the airport scattered everywhere ... outside ... on the tarmac ... NO control at all ! ! !

Wow Zorro....used to be my hero back in the day. Way, way back in the day. 1/2 century ago. LOL. Yikes I am old. I am also surprised to see someone dress up like him.
I would have thought the PC police took his stuff off the air?
"..... now every half baked knucklehead copycat is gonna get his jollys doing this...
The true question is...
Which bathroom does the fake Zorro use?
ROFLMAO! Thanks, Doogle.
Laugh-of-the-day BUMP!
I had a Zorro watch when I was a kid. Man, I sure wish I still had it!
There is a guy in my neighborhood who dresses like that. He has a little chihuahua who follows him. He goes out with the hat and his dog and has a boom box on his shoulder ... then he prances along dancing the samba.
Yes, I’m in Los Angeles.
eBay will make that wish come true.
What??? More Keystone Kops??? How many muzlims terrorists have we had dressed up as Zorro???

I was claiming my baggage at Baggage Claim 4 when a panic developed. A bunch of people left the door area and threw themselves on the floor behind the pillar where I was standing. When I figured out what was happening, I refused to hit the ground. I was not going to get shot cowering on the ground. There were a few others like me.
Eventually everyone got up. Police with guns out told us to evacuate the room. This put us outside right next to Zorro, who looked harmless. I tried to leave the area but we were told to go back inside. Armed police ran through the room looking for a gunman. We were then told to leave. I walked down to the hotel shuttle area to find all traffic through the terminals had stopped. I ended up walking over a mile to my hotel. Traffic was backed up in all directions.
The airport police did their job. What worries me were the panicked actions of most of the public.
