Spying Wifi Router

As people move through a space with a Wi-Fi signal, their bodies affect it, absorbing some waves and reflecting others in various directions. By analyzing the exact ways that a Wi-Fi signal is altered when a human moves through it, researchers can see what someone writes with their finger in the air, identify a particular person by the way that they walk, and even read a persons lips with startling accuracyin some cases even if a router isnt in the same room as the person performing the actions.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting, but not too surprising. Consider how even an X-box now has very good facial recognition, and can read body movement. I know it's different, but makes it clear how much technology is advancing. If only human ethics and behavior were advancing as well.

I am calling BS.
It would have to be calibrated in that environment to do anything useful.

Reads sort of like the fictional BS in Wired that the BBC goes around in a tiny little van checking to see if people are illegally watching the BBC iPlayer without paying the TV tax.

Your TV (at least the old analog tuners) did emit a signal of its own. Had do to with the mixing process and the local oscillator used.

I understand all of that, they’re claiming they can tell what you’re watching online on your wifi router. Which is a bunch of BS. The BBC wouldn’t get far in this country if they’re tapping individuals wifi networks with/without prior consent. It’s simply illegal for anyone to tap their neighbors wifi, even though it’s done on a regular basis. This story and the BBC one I cited is just tin-foil hat nuttery.

You would be surprised at the number of efforts used to geo-locate someone, something using everyday RF signals that are present in the environment. The primary goal being able to do it passively/or undetected.
