How long does it take to prep and fly a large plane? It is not trivial.
What are the odds they would do all that for a 20 MILE flight. It would cost a fortune too.
So. what seems more likely?
Instead of just driving there they would prepare a flight plan for a 20 mile flight, drive to the airport, load onto the plane, taxi, fly, and land about 3 minutes later...

Her rumored medical condition flared up during flight so they immediately landed?
The condition she is rumored to have is one that is supposed to prohibit flying, unless you want to die. The change in altitude and plood pressure can be fatal.
She needed to avoid the snipers, ya know.
All big jets fly IFR. Not sure if a Gulfstream fits this or not. I am sure the insurance cos. have something to say about it.
The fixed hourly cost for operating a Gulfsteam V, VI, aircraft runs about $4000.00 per hour. Add another $1500.00 per hour, for the crew, Captain, First Officer and Flight Attendent, and, add another $300.00 for catering, $200.00 for limo service to and from the aircraft to destination, another $300.00 per hour for ground handling, at both airports and any take-off landing fees that might apply at each airport. The real out of pocket costs of operating the Clinton GVI aircraft was somewhere between $7000-8000.00 to travel a distance, airborne, of twenty miles!!! Pure insanity!!!
Not to mention the vacationers if going by ferry between the islands, whose travel would be seriously disrupted.
This is not the hill to die on. Especially considering that Donald Trump flies around on his private jet or on his private helicopter.

No they do not. There are times even the big iron flys vfr, no flight plan.
What? No one offered to take her on their yacht. Some of the largest, most beautiful yachts spend their summers in the Nantucket Boat basin. I’m sure one of her donors would have given her a free ride. Hey, how about a sail ,across the sound, on Kerry’s sailboat.
I know she started on the Vineyard but she is the queen, after all, and they could have traveled from Nantucket to pick her up.

As much as I despise this woman you are correct. Arranging security for the road, the boat crossing and then again the road would be more expensive than the 20 minute hop in an aircraft.

The flight plan, however might be another thing.
