awrence Livermore National Laboratory is working on using carbon nanotubes to create a barrier that would be impenetrable to chemical and biological agents, but still water-permeable. The result could make suits designed to protect against chemical and biological threats more comfortableand effectivefor long-term wear.

Each of the tubes has a diameter of less than five nanometers. For reference, there are about 254,000,000 nanometers in a single inch. Less than five nanometers, it turns out, is the sweet spot that allows water to pass through the fabric while keeping out chemical agents, viruses, and most microscopic organisms.
The result is a thinner, less bulky protective suit that can be worn longer without experiencing physical discomfort.... The national laboratory believes that suits made of the new material could be in the field in less than ten years.

Nano particles are cancer causing.
Do you enjoy wearing that asbestos radon suit?
Nano filaments can be cancer causing, especially longer ones which are free-floating. Lots of things required for life are on the nano-scale.
Do you have a source for that information ?
I like mine with the extra free radicals to circulate around in my genome. It gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling.
Kind of reminds me of the temporary defense against the Drakh plague in the short lived Crusade spin off of the great Babylon 5.
And by about 254,000,000 nanometers in a single inch the author means exactly 25,400,000 nanometers. < /eyeroll >

IBM lab on a chip can sort 20 nanometer nanoparticles such as DNA, viruses and exos
IBM is leveraging its computer chip making technology and quietly becoming a biology company. There can be a lot of applications for nanoscale detection and remediation of diseases and poisons. This might become an area of some big breakthroughs.
I'm afraid I do not see how that is possible, unless the carbon nanotubes interact directly with the water (which would leave the salt from sweat inside the suit, BTW).

Don’t be a ‘Don’t Bee’. Buck up soldier it’s for your country.
