Police have charged a Pennsylvania man with animal cruelty after he allegedly beat a horse after the animal collapsed Tuesday while pulling a heavy load on a rural road in Lancaster County.
Marvin M. Sensenig, 20, of Ephrata, Pa., was arrested Friday and faces two counts of cruelty to animals, Ephrata police announced in a statement.
It is alleged that the defendant unreasonably struck a horse that was overburdened with a heavy load, the statement says. The horse expired shortly thereafter.

Thanks for posting this article. I was not aware of Amish attitudes toward animals. That’s disgusting & unacceptable.
I have nothing but contempt for people who abuse helpless animals. My high opinion of the Amish has changed considerably.
He was radicalized by Donald Trump, or George Bush. Or Climate change effected the horse.
What outdated practices to follow?
A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. (Proverbs 12:10)?
"The Amish' are not a monolithic group, while I am sure they can be like institutionalized religion. Yet based upon the article, I see no actual beating.
For once, it really was the Amish.
The Bible has quite a few passages on this topic. Christians are to take good care of their animals.
Ok
Amish see horses as beasts of burden the way everyone else used to back when horses used to live 8-9 years max
Flicka notwithstanding
But now we have one guy whose horse collapses and some here go into kill him or bash Amish mode
Yet wonder for a second the abortion rate amongst Amish compared to we English?
I’ll bet we’ve got no high horse to sit upon
I own horses..big yard dogs very well feed and never hit at all aside from a rib nudge to get going
Keeping our beasts under yoke alive within reasonable measure is a Christian creed but the Amish do see them more as a work animal than we do in 2016
It’s perspective when commenting on the Amish as a whole
[[The purpose of religion is to make people better, not to give them outdated practices to follow and tell them that thats the way to win favor with God.]]
religion changes nothing
Following Jesus and reading his word transforms peoples lives.
An eye for an eye.
The cops may want to make a welfare check on his wife and kids. If he beat his horse, he probably did the same to them.
We live in an Amish area and this does not surprise me in the least. Neither Amish animals or property are taken care of.
No one - not you - not me - not Amish - not Muslims - not
Christians - no one - is going to be made worthy by their
“perfect” works. If they were; then Christ would not have
had to pay the penalty for sin by his death on the cross.
However, the Amish man who mistreated the horse is a ASS!
Except Christianity, which teaches that we can't be good enough. Jesus fulfilled the law for all who believe.
You don’t have to beat an animal to abuse it.
Amish in our area, the wife saw the Amish work a horse to collapse on a hot day. She brought it water to help cool it. Amish farmer was just mad because the horse wasn’t working.
Amish is just a CULT. They are legalistic not religious.
Nothing to admire about them.
Mine are spoiled rotten!
LOL! I could never bring myself to dress up my dogs.
lol I just got a cat from the Lapeer animal control....she is sweet and likes me. I don’t have to talk to myself anymore I talk to the cat......step one on how to become that crazy cat lady down the street...I would have an Angora baby if I could....goats are great, condo association frowns on them...
On our goats first Halloween; we tried the largest dog costume that WallyWorld had, on our Ellie Mae.
It was a Little House on the Prairie style dress with sunbonnet, and she did NOT like it and it was too small anyway.
