How the election looks to backers of the Republican nominee
Perhaps the hardest thing to do in contemporary American politics is to imagine how the world looks from the other side. I've made no secret of why, as a Republican, I oppose Donald Trump and what he stands for. But I've also been talking to his supporters and advisors, trying to understand how they see and hear the same things that I do, and draw such very different conclusions. What follows isn't a transcription - it's a synthesis of the conversations I've had, and the insights I've gleaned, presented in the voice of an imagined Trump supporter.
"You people in the Acela corridor aren't getting it. Again. You think Donald Trump is screwing up because he keeps saying things that you find offensive or off-the-wall. But he's not talking to you. You're not his audience, you never were, and you never will be. He's playing this game in a different way from anybody you've ever seen. And he's winning too, in a different way from anybody you've ever seen.

Why this Trump supporter thinks he’ll win-
Because the idiots and frauds are greatly outnumbered now, just as they will be in November.
Because he thinks he’s a scam artist - read the last paragraph. I don’t even know how these people define scam artist. Someone they don’t want to vote for and won’t vote for?

Yeah, Frum seems to get it but none the less he still thinks we’re angry because IMMIGRANTS are replacing us. He misses the whole dismissal of Law.

He doesn’t even mention the anger directed at Hillary either and how her candidacy is at least as improbable by historical standards.
Frum makes a point about not wanting to be lead by a black man or a woman making us racists and misogynists. Newsflash, Frum, I don’t care what someone’s race or gender is. I care about POLICY.
No, he doesn't get it. He is still opposing Trump. In the article he is merely quoting what Trump supporters are telling him.

It's about the wall and stopping the immigration onslaught. It is also about protectionism and stopping trade deals that are destroying industry after industry.
Frum sort of gets it. But not quite.
He starts out talking about how the Donald attacked Cruz. That was a tactical move not a strategic play. I the big scheme of things not very important. But to a guy like Frum, who hates Cruz, it was his first priority in his list of talking points. He is just not quit hitting it.
Meh. Frum had to use an imaginary supporter, because one like this doesn’t exist, or in such small numbers as to be immaterial. Frum is trying to paint Trump as the ONLY the candidate of poor, white males. This attempts to solidify how the Left is portraying us - white, male, racist, misogynist, fearful, xenophobic, anti-government, homophobic, snake-handling Bible thumpers. Bullshit. While Trump may appeal to those various demographics, his policies are good for EVERYBODY, and most importantly, best for America. And when America is strong, it’s best for decent people EVERYWHERE.
Legal immigration is killing us too. All immigration needs to stop for 20 - 30 years.

This is the KEY LINE. Abuse and isolate people long enough, and they will COME TOGETHER, as we’re seeing now.
DO NOT BE FOOLED. The people on the left, in media, the Democrats, and the people who claim to be conservative thinkers and Republicans ALWAYS FEARED ONE THING.
And that was that the WHITE VOTE WOULD UNIFY, if the right candidate came along. For if it did, still at 70+ percent of the voting electorate, that candidate would be UNSTOPPABLE and would not answer to anyone but his supporters - and everyone else milking the system would be at risk, grave risk.
That is the reason you saw Republican leaders, Conservative columnists, Conservative media (i.e., Fox), Liberal media, Liberal columnists, and Democrat leaders ALL COME TOGETHER AGAINST TRUMP.
The ENTIRE POLITICAL ESTABLISHMENT aligned against Trump.
The Republican/Conservative side did so because they ‘claimed’ he (Trump) couldn’t win, or even come close, against Hillary - obviously something they ALWAYS KNEW was a lie - these people are not dumb.
The Democrat/Liberal aligned against Trump from the outset because of EXACTLY the opposite - they knew he may very well win, and that he was the ONLY REPUBLICAN that even had a chance of winning in November. They knew the polls showing Kasich doing better were BS, as they hadn’t even begun their tear-down of him - not to mention half of the white vote staying home (Romney effect), as Kasich offered nothing to them (same for Rubio and virtually all of the others).
To believe anything else regarding the Democrat fear of a Trump victory would mean that the Democrats were trying to do our side a favor. Most of us, on this site, realize that the only ‘favors’ the Democrats want to do for us is re-education camps and firing squads for those that refuse to be ‘re-educated’. People of that mindset are directly responsible for at least 100 Million deaths around the world in the 20th century - is there ANY REASON that to believe that the ones here think any differently?
So the REAL FEAR, from all sides, is that Trump may just well win in November, and not have to answer to any of them. And that makes most of us here VERY, VERY, HAPPY.
