And then, to get rid of the Alligator Gar all we need to do is....
Huge fish. The Gator Gar does not taste very good to people?
I’m already guessing they are not carnivorous of dangerous to humans.
The standard drill when catching one was to cut the line and throw it up on the bank to suffocate.
The meat was worthless, you didn't want to tangle with those teeth trying to retrieve your hook, and you sure didn't want to ever catch it again.
Oh my, what is that?!?!
river just down the road wife and I went canoeing during summer during low levels
we are from the city ( California) most of our lives never been on a Ozark river
we see HUGE gars in small deep pools in the river longer than our canoe. Unreal
I hate gar and will kill them with anything nearby, if they land on one of my hooks...
The Asian carp were introduced to control vegetation in the water. We were assured the were “triploid” and thus unable to breed. They would just clean everything up and then die without ever reproducing.
Someone forgot to tell the fish they couldn’t reproduce.
One more example of introduced species causing unintended consequences.
I have a picture of my Dad standing next to an alligator gar that he caught on the Red River near Texarkana back in the early 50s. It was at least an inch longer than his 6’3” in height. All I can say is that we lived with the gars then, we can live with them, belly full of invasive asian carp, now!
Tiger Muskies. Problem is with them and Muskies, they will attack humans. Dogs, cats, ducks.
