Vanity - After Convention, Trump should make a Civility Speech
Me | 07/15/16 | Self

Posted on 07/15/2016 11:09:33 AM PDT by Yaelle

I think that soon after the Convention, Trump can make history and rally everyone around him with a Civility Speech. He needs to announce it, act like its gonna be Yuge, then deliver a speech to every American about civility.

Some of the content should be:

- saying that he hopes everyone is either watching, or will watch it later on YouTube, even if they don’t like HIM because this is about all of us, not him

- saying that American civility will be a bully pulpit focus in his first 100 days in office, but that we can't wait til then; more people will die before then and a good leader needs to inspire greatness in others

- we all need to understand what “civilization” means. That it means kindness in a very general way, kindness to all, even those whom you can’t see. When you are civilized, that means not behaving with hot reactions like animals do, you treat people with CIVILITY

- how 250 years ago it was said that “America is great because she is GOOD.” Meaning you can trust her people. Meaning we strive to be lawful and treat others with civility. Politeness. We’ve lost that.

- a heartfelt plea to all Americans, all races, all professions (even if you are in law enforcement), to make a yuge effort to treat everyone you meet and everyone you don’t meet with civility and respect. Keep your towns and cities clean. Parks and streets are better not filled with trash. Open doors, smile, be decent.

- not to think about how others have done you wrong or threatened you in the past but to treat each new person with respect. Not generalizing that “all cops” or “all people of a certain culture or race” deserve any less than human kindness and civility.

- Confidence that we as Americans are up to it and can do it.

- surprise each other with our kindness and decency and it will make America a better place to live and a safer place to visit (he can quote from other countries’ recent warnings at how unsafe some of our cities have become)

- make it short and concise

Yep.

I don’t want a safe society.
I don’t want a polite society.

I want a truthful government.

I suspect that if we got back to the Truth, we would find that the safety and the politeness would come along for free.

Good point and exactly what I said in post #17, second paragraph.

It would be a massive slap in the face to Hildebeeste, 0b0la, and the Black Liars Movement. The shrieking and squawking would be epic. And it would be completely classy on our side.

The problem with your suggestion is the other side doesn’t play by the same rules or hold themselves to the same standards. And the media is hardly an impartial witness. So, all you suggest is effectively handicapping our side while the other side and the media run roughshod all over us. That’s happened since Reagan. Our side fights Marquis of Queensbury, the other side fights guerilla warfare. Trump doesn’t play by those rules, and we shouldn’t ask him.

Your point bears repeating: The left uses our civility and manners as a weapon against us.

In a way it is our greatest weakness. When a doosh politician says “that’s not who we are”, he is using our civility against us. We need to be able to nip that nonsense in the bud.

Yaelle, I love you as a FReeper sibling, but the absolutely most important thing for Donald is to get elected. Nothing else matters. The literal fate of Western Civilization rests upon him.

If this “civility” thing you speak of aids that goal, then I approve.

Yeah, the Kindler Gentler Era went so well for us.

I remember when everyone rallied around Republicans and heralded them with great respect.

I tend to agree here. Not having to fight unnecessary battles in perpetuity — because crucial bulls were finally taken by the horns — will itself be a recipe for better civility.

I only thought that it’s the right thing to do in this cops vs blacks STUPID WAR. The whole thing is based on gang grievance type, animal-like behavior, and some cops do it too. It’s a way to get us all together while basically pointing out the lack of civilization in certain communities that is growing. We need to say, some of us are not cutting it, not acting like men. It’s a decent way of saying it, because if you call out only blacks (and they aren’t the only ones guilty of this), it would be “racist.”

I wouldn’t change a thing about Trump. He is civilized. This speech would be directed at those who are not.

The guy in Ferguson, for example, who attacked a cop in his patrol car. That is animal behavior. Yet no one is calling him responsible for what happened to him.

Trump mowed down 17 competitors already with ease even against global opposition and smearing.

Whatever he’s doing seems to be working well.

I love how he plays the MSM like a fiddle and makes them chase their own tails.

It’s a beautiful thing to behold.

Sniff. (Wipes tear away)

I think your intent is good, just replace the word civility and civil with sanity and sane.

One can be “kinder/gentler” without it being at the cost of confusion. The media itself is largely at fault for exaggerating Trump’s barkiness. Trump could be Superman and all we’d see in the media that hated him would be every *BIFF* and *POW*, repeated a few dozen times too for maximum criticism effect.

Playing “nice” with Hillary is not helpful.

Do you realize that ANY negative thing said to or about Hillary would be held as proof Trump lied??

Get your head out of your butt.

I despise the dirty Bushes. That is not my point. Some communities have decivilization to the point other countries warn against travel to them. The speech would be a way to condemn animal behavior by ANY American, but it only pertains to those who have been acting out of instant reaction like animals, not using their frontal cortexes to imbue some humanity and kindness into their behavior.

This is to call the entire country to act decent but it is directed at those who have been animals. Those who have been acting as decent citizens are not affected.

Damn straight Trump should not change one bit. But Obama has never once asked for more civility among “his” people. He INCREASES their list of grievances, encourages the YOU DID ME WRONG mentality, which leads to violence and death. It is the mark of a leader to inspire everyone to be the best they can be. Obama is no leader.

It’s actually going to be evangelism that is going to fill these gaps, that is going to neutralize the grudges and reluctance to act when there is an opening for kindnesses.

For example. In the Castile case. Why did nobody leap in the car and apply first aid to Philando? Even if it had been in vain it sure would have played better and Barack might have even been robbed of a bloody shirt.

Someone who is firm on Jesus as Savior would probably think of such things immediately.

This speech would be directed at those who are not.

I sympathize with you on the destruction of civility -- or rather, the destruction of our ability to have reasoned discussions about anything of substance -- but the ones "who are not" are beyond the reach of any sort of speech you describe.

LOL! Yeah, he needs to start sounding like every other unsuccessful GOP clown who’s tried to run for office.

Thankfully, he doesn’t need your help.
