This particular one was.
I logged in precisely to tell you that I will not shut my mouth just because you think I should.
I suppose you thought you believed in freedom of speech; you clearly do not.
Savage has said some worthwhile things about borders, language, and culture - all of which I figured out on my own before he was ever on the air. He has continually compromised his message, however, by constantly focusing on his own enormous, infantile ego needs.
He actually denounced Sean Hannity just yesterday as someone who cannot let go of resentment! Savage pretended that there should be no reason to take being called “a leprechaun” an insult. What exactly was it, then? A term of endearment for “the wall-banger” he so obviously despises?
I am no great fan of Hannity; I am denouncing Savage’s savage hypocrisy. When has he ever let go of his resentment... toward anyone? You write of his fire and passion; most of it is spent on himself: his accomplishments, and his resentments.
The irony is staggering. He has never once unambiguously complimented any of his competition - every once in a great while he will proffer a tepid, back-handed acknowledgement - but has ranted all along for years about how they do not defend him.
Now I, as an ordained minister who has practiced what he preaches at considerable personal cost, am supposed to applaud him in his hubristic future endeavor - as an admitted agnostic - to lecture me on the nature of God in his next book? Not in this lifetime.
This is a man who apparently indulged in both illicit sex and illegal drugs in his youth. This is a man who divorced one wife, and who is apparently separated from a second. After all, he often talks about living alone except for that dog, and about sleeping in different houses. Yet this is a man who resolutely refuses to denounce anything he has ever done; rather he justifies it all by saying it was all part of his grand destiny. Yet he also presumes to pontificate about family values - values he apparently does not really feel obliged to live out himself. He is, functionally, a misanthrope.
I worship the Lord - not any mere man. If I were nevertheless to choose a mere man to eulogize and emulate, it would certainly not be Michael Savage.
If you want to worship Michael Savage, then that is your choice.
Regardless, do not tell me to shut up!
P.S.
I did hear the opening monologue. So what? That does not change the truth of what I wrote. And I have known of his books since before he was ever on the air - before he ever used the moniker of Savage. Can you say the same? I guarantee you that I know what he is truly like better than do you.
P.P.S.
I am entirely aware that he asserted that anyone who has anything contrary to say about him does so out of “pure jealousy.” I see: He can make all manner of negative observations about others, and that is just pure reason; when anyone else does the same thing, it is pure jealousy. Sure: no double standard there.
So, not a fan, eh?
