We saw no other option than to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension to detonate where the suspect was
A suitable alternative to the bomb would have been a flamethrower!

Why not use a flamethrower?
I truly embrace your argument. If police are allowed to use lethal explosives, so should the general populace.
The fact that they can't is sort of my point.

Not really, it’s usage was ordered by a black police chief. 8>)
I thought it was genius.
Frankly I would have been very proud if the cops had gone down to the nearest National Guard Armory and requisitioned a hand grenade, gone to wall mart and requisitioned a remote control pick up truck, taken them to the scene, pulled the pin, dropped it into the back of the toy truck and drove it to the area where the perp was holed up.
I’m kinda hoping that is how they pulled it off. I suspect they may have had a ready made bomb robot, but either way it was ingeneous.
A suitable alternative to hitting the post button six times would have been hitting it once.
Bullets are explosives. They killed 5 cops yesterday. The police bomb only killed one person. I suppose you would have preferred that a couple more cops got killed as long as they used non-military style weapons.
We don’t know. A 6th(?) floor parking garage could have a very extensive field of fire including nearby buildings.
Waiting for dehydration to impair the suspect would be very difficult in that case.
But the point is that the danger to the public is the central factor to be considered.
It’s interesting to consider this in terms of Posse Comitatus theory too.
If a bomb ‘IS’ needed is it better overall for Posse Comitatus to be suspended or weakened so the bomb can be delivered by a military force instead of the police?
He was armed and dangerous.
Just 'cuz the price of fuel is still lower than it was a few years ago, don't mean anybody should go runnin' 'round Big D wasting the stuff on criminals.
Not disturbed at all. If the police decide to stop doing their jobs due to political pressures, then I’d be disturbed.
I guess we're up to nine times now. Lay off the caffeine before using that flamethrower, Chief.
And, if you want a serious answer. Use of flamethrowers is precluded by horror from the general public. In my mind, they are at least more directional than bombs, and versions of flamethrowers are available to the general public. So, yeah, they are better than bombs in the police arsenal, IMHO.
explosive device
The bad guy must have not been near other people unless the explosive device was highly directional and controllable.
Not in the least.
