Root canals are always fun, right? In reality, word that you need a root canal is some of the worst news most people get at the dentist. Whenever your dentist tells you that's the next procedure you're going have to go through, two things are clear beyond the pain you're about to endure: One, that your throbbing will finally soon go away, and the second is that the tooth that's getting the root canal is dead.
However, researchers have come up with a new kind of biomaterial that not only encourages the natural regeneration of teeth, but also might eliminate root canal procedures for good.
So how do we get root canals in the first place?
It all starts with a cavity that needs to be filled with either porcelain, a tooth-colored filling material, gold or other metal alloys. But as soon as that filling fails, the pain returns. That usually means the nerve and vascularization of the tooth are infected and need to be removed. Their place is taken by a special compound that is then cemented into the tooth. All that is done via a root canal procedure. The tooth is saved, but it's no longer served by nerve or blood vessels. And over time, the tooth might be lost because of that.
Researchers from the University of Harvard and Nottingham have come up with a biomaterial for fillings that is regenerative, according to Popular Science. The material stimulates the growth of stem cells in the pulp, which could prevent further tooth decay. Because fillings wouldn't fail as often, root canal procedures could be virtually unnecessary.

I would agree. I had two of them in the span of two weeks. The first one was done on the wrong tooth (can't really blame the orthodontist) and when the pain continued, he did the next tooth for free......Two for the price of one, can't beat that!......LOL!
Then the pain returned so he had his partner try to figure out what was going on. The best explanation they could come up with was that I had a fracture at the root that was undetectable by x-ray that was being impacted by inflammation in the deep tissue and once the inflammation subsided, the pain went away.
Just like the medical profession, it's not an exacting science for cures. The original Ortho is a member of the Michigan Dental Board and he actually asked me if he could use my weird case in future board studies..........I said sure
Ouch I had horrendous teeth as a young in and got spooked of the dentists big time they put me under and I had bad bad dreams scary as hell well I let my teeth go till i was older and had a few root canals done they do them in one visit now not 2 or 3 like my youth
My first dentist way back when was named Dr. Hertz great guy fun good dentist he had a boat near our boat he moved out of town then went to the devil dentist I later found out though all my Facebook buddies from way back everyone had horror stories
I doubt that I can nurse a broken tooth I’ve had for that long.
Sooner rather than later, it will be expensive implant time.
It wasn't until after I got out of the army and obtained dental coverage thru my employer that I joined a softball team that had a dentist on my team.
He was a great guy and allayed my fears of dental work and talked me into coming into his office where he successfully fixed my front teeth without pain........I'm forever indebted to him.
About 6 or 7 years ago I had to have my upper wisdom teeth taken out both impacted well the guy i went to I told him what I went though the bad dreams and such and well this was 30 or so years ago that i was put out well i told him it wont be easy to knock me out well he had a heck of a time getting an iv going i was dehydrated from having to fast for the surgery He tossed some packaging in frustration Ok out I go I wake up half way though it he says that we lost the iv the needle came out he gave me gas asked if i wanted to continue hell yes get it over with he left two holes into my sinus cavity bloody nose for days then i had a coke and BLAMO it came out my nose and burnt like hell
Yeah. It’s a struggle trying to keep a few snaggles in our
mouths! I’m 69, almost 70. I’m glad for what teeth I’ve
got. When I was a child, my mother sent me to a local
small town dentist. He fussed and fumed about how awful my
teeth were and just simply pulled a tooth he probably could
have filled if he hadn’t been in a bad mood that day. That
little town was known for its “aristocrats”, and how they
loved putting “people like me” in our places low on the
old totem pole. I married a boy from there whose parents
were considered a part of the little town “club” and, boy,
were lots of those girls and mothers were mad as wet hens
about that. (We’ve been together 52 years., did better than
a lot of them.) Our son attended Oxford University in
England and one of husband’s old girlfriends made the snarky
comment, “Are you SURE he REALLY went to Oxford. There
WERE fake schools calling themselves “Oxford”?” I told her,
“Yeah, I know that; but, yes, he DID go to Oxford
University and has a D. Phil from Oriel College, a part of
Oxford University.”
I’m so thankful I don’t have to live in that town. I’ve
done my time there early on. Husband’s brother lives there
& is a retired school teacher with all the hero worship
that accompanies it. - He is welcome to it! I went to my
last high school reunion at the 40th one about 12 yrs. ago.
For a long time, my husband just browbeat me about going to
those things. He had a normal high school experience and
could not and would not realize that I had not had the
experience that he had. After that one, he shut up and has
stayed shut up. Don’t know what finally turned on the light
for him. . but I’m thankful; better late than never.
Wow, never heard of an extracted wisdom tooth being blown out one's nose..............That's weird!......(and kinda funny)
No after they were taken out the carbonated coke cam out mt nose
later
Well, if it's any consolation, wine came out my nose after I read the post.............LOL!...and I still have my wisdom teeth.
Oil of oregano will kill any dental infection if you are willing to use it.
Oil of Oregano is amazing. It will stop a sinus infection or any infection related to the lungs, like bronchitis, immediately. I don’t normally believe in that sort of natural remedy stuff, but I am impressed with this. The problem, as you say, is getting past the taste to gargle and ingest an effective dose. That’s hard to do.
I started with oregano with CAPSULES. No taste!
Guess the implication is that *liquid* is cheaper.
hmmm will look in to.
I’ve had several root canals, not one of which was even slightly painful.
I fell asleep during a couple of them because they were taking so long.
