I joined as a member last week.
'bout time, eh?
I have since learned that there are "Sticky" forum posts that have dead info, that Admins and Moderators are tough to contact (or don't reply), and that some links don't work. e.g. their FAQ link is dead. Their OK Molon Labe oath (signup) is dead.
So the question is posed; Is Oath Keepers dying?
Are there in fact fewer Oath Keepers, or has the BHO administration shoved some back underground? I was once told that there are NO EX-Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine. I would like to think OK have the same ethos. Far as I know, death is the only thing that separates OK from the rest...
My introduction to OK on their forum reads:
-----
Good day;
When I gave my oath of enlistment in 1983, I didn't know that it did NOT expire with my term of enlistment. At the time, I hadn't much thought about it or what it meant. I thought it would be "fun" to learn explosives as a 12-Bravo, Combat Engineer. (part time, of course)
It took years to unlearn much of what I was indoctrinated with in the publik skool system. e.g. Lincoln was a good president. The civil war was about slavery. The evil.fed.gov grants "rights". The Constitution is a "living document". The U.S. Supreme Court determines right and wrong. The Catholic church is considered to be "christian". (I'm a proud EX-catholic. Thank God!)
For years I, like many people, have unknowingly walked around with a target on my back because my name is on several diverse "watch lists". Christian, Bible believer, veteran, home-schooler, ex-CHL holder, bulk ammo buyer, Texican (adopted). We plant gardens. I've posted on FreeRepublic, ordered books and DVDs from Chuck Baldwin, sent funds to CSPOA, questioned the official 911 narrative, ordered Constitutional "No Trespassing" signs from NARLO. Someone I know once said "If your name isn't on at least six or seven watch lists, you're doing something wrong!".
My beloved of 30+ years is a bit miffed that I joined. She's rather attached to her two dogs. (They shoot the dogs first, don't they?)
I can't really afford to join Oath Keepers; yet I cannot afford NOT to...
Trying to learn to live by the Spartan code of honor (with some caveats), but it's not going well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartan_army#Spartan_code_of_honor
It is time to take the target off of my back, and start wearing it on my chest as all Oath Keepers do.
(P.S. I tried to sign the "Oathkeepers Molon Labe pledge", but got a 404... Did they take it down? If so, why? Also tried "molonlabepledge.org" Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Oscar.)

Organizations, like organisms, have life cycles. They are born, live and die. Home Owner’s associations, companies, religions, governments and nations all are born, live and die. At the beginning of the twentieth century there were dozens of American car companies. Over my lifetime I have seen churches that flourished and then became empty buildings. To keep something alive takes active dedication by one or many people. Often times the core folks have a falling out and go off to do other things. It’s sad. But, it’s life. Constant change and renewal.
Sorry, have only one clue from which to start the investigation. The Oregon/Bundy standoff. http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/oregon-standoff-splintering-antigovernment-groups
Perhaps this had something to do with any decision made. Are there any phone numbers available which you might call? Friends, names in the group you might ask? A local resident who might possibly be a member (police, vet, ?)
Just checked in before bedtime. Found this, which might explain a lot:

One should be known by the enemies they keep, rather than by their “friends”?
I’m not a philosopher, but I play one on occasion. and, yes, maybe OK is dying. Question then becomes; what will supplant them?
After going to OK on their Facebook page a message was found that their website was down due to technical difficulties and they hoped to have it up again by Sunday afternoon.
Keep trying?
Dying?
It wasn’t really anything to begin with. Just a lot of big talk.
Henry Bowman has gone Galt!
Though I’m not eligible for active OK membership, I long ago recognized that one is never “unsworn” after being sworn in to defend our countryt and its Constittion; me in August 1956 into the NYARNG, honorably discharged in October 1956 as Sgt E-5, MG squad leader. In 2004 I could stomach neither Bush’s policies and certainly not Kerry’s in any way, shape, or form. Voted for Mike Peroutks/Chuck Baldwin, then for CB in 2008. Know how you feel. Keep on.
The Catholic Church is not Christian? really?
I was a member of Oathkeepers for a few years. Unfortunately, the organization has run into a few problems. Here in PA we have split off to form our own seperate organization. This has happened in a few states. We are very active at the local level. The local level is where the rubber hits the road. Like minded folks setting up mutual assistance networks.
BTTT ...Stay Safe !!
In today’s America you can’t start a flower sniffing or butterfly watching club without it being infiltrated by the FBI, DHS, BATFE and a legion of local snoops, spooks and snitches.
I joined, pay annual dues because, well, I think their heart was in the right place, but there’s no way they’ll ever be able to do what is necessary to return this country to the fundamentals of a “constitutional republic.”
You don’t have to take an oath to be a patriot.
I was sworn in to the Army, enlisted not officer.
I have thought about the Oath Keepers. I have thought about getting a CCW license. Have done neither. I’m already on enough bad boys lists.
If the need to defend the nation comes, I’ll be there (I’m old). But if that happens it will not be a local group. The State of Texas will be involved. The governor has already said we will not comply with taking guns from the public.
I have bought additional reloading equipment and components. I do garden, because I like fresh veggies. I’m not a prepper, but think I can be pretty self sufficient if need be. We farm, have the equipment and land. Live in the “Big Nothing”. Know and like most of my neighbors. Family has been here a very long time.
That said, these are not normal times.
Your are among FRiends.
Bingo! As with all so-called 'patriot' organizations. If these were true patriot orgs, we wouldn't be sitting here chatting.
If you have $40, you can be an Oath Keeper.
I've been keeping my word for sixty years, to the best of my ability. Don't see why I should pay anyone to do so now. Sounds like kind of a form of simony (pun on Simonides) to me--trying to buy honor.
