Perhaps there needs to be a greater ingestion of caffeine? "D" Day for the Normandy Invasion, Operation Overlord, was 6 June 1944, 72 years ago as of last month. NOT being critical of the observance or your mention of this TdF Stage 1 which went from Mont-Saint-Michel to Utah Beach, just correcting an unnecessary error.
Loved the fact that Cavendish got his 1st Yellow Jersey with this 27th TdF Stage Win. Sprinters can only get these in the 1st days of these multi-stage races! After his heartbreak in the 2014 Tour where he crashed out on English roads, this is great for him.
As for this picture, anyone else remembering the movie "The Longest Day" and Red Buttons as the hapless paratrooper dangling there at St Mere Eglise?
"DING DONG !"
I remember reading in a history book, that the real paratrooper did such a good job playing dead, that a German soldier wrote of being haunted by "that poor dead guy hanging from the steeple."
(one of these days I'll learn not to try to do two things at once)
