Interior Secretary Sally Jewell told attendees at an event on Hispanic-American entrepreneurship on Tuesday that if it were not for legal and illegal immigration into the United States “we would not eat.”
Jewell said that the country is still trying to address the rights of farm workers, including the role immigration plays.
“I’d say the challenges of immigration reform are a good example,” she said. “If we did not have immigration to this country we would not eat. Whether it’s documented or undocumented, we would not eat,” Jewell said at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. …

Cesar Chavez is an icon of the Farm Workers Labor movement for higher wages. Actually in his time he was very right. Those workers were paid poorly.
What most people do not know is Cesar Chavez was adamantly opposed to illegal aliens. He recognized they were an economic force that drove farm workers wages down.
It amuses me when I drive down Cesar Chavez street in Austin Texas. Austin is the heart of liberalism in Texas. I do not even consider it Texas. They honor a man that opposed illegals and Austin is a Sanctuary City. They do not even know what Cesar Chavez stood for. If they did they would change the name of the street.
Note they never make a distinction between legal and illegal immigration.
It is on purpose. They like to frame anti illegal immigration folks as just being total anti immigration. Thats why they frame it that way.

I have always lived in Washington state. I picked strawberries at eleven and picked strawberries, raspberries, black caps, blue berries and beans at twelve. Many of my age group picked these harvests as well although maybe not so consistently.
There were a few migrants in the fields but not so many as there were a lot of us kids picking, too. Then they changed some child labor law and I guess now they are crying for illegals.
Here I am in a basically communist state and they now refuse valuable child labor. Maybe the snowflakes would not require so much safe space if they got out and mingled with whatever groups, made some money, and stopped the weird rending of clothes and crocodile tears over small supply of migrant workers.
Uh-huh...and without homosexuals, no one’s hair would ever get cut and styled.
has this child ever heard of automation? 40 million illegals and we still have a shortage of produce pickers, but we won’t starve, robotics will be hard at work.

If we did not have such a reliance on below minimum wage immigrant labor for our agriculture products, listeria outbreaks would be nonexistent. Taco Bell would still be serving green onions on its Mexican pizza, Chipotle would never had to shut down, and nobody would have had to pretend near-illiterate workers from central America weren’t crapping in the spinach fields for Dole.
I suspect the market price would remain the same, because the profits are being absorbed by liberal leaning corporate Big-Agra than by small producers.

They eat just fine in Europe without it. Because most of agricultural picking is automated. Innovations occur when cheap labor is eliminated

I’ve met these progressive masterminds. They are scary-stupid and those are the ones without power. The thought of putting any in a position of authority is ludicrous and extremely scary.
Remember the meat-packing plant where all the Americans applied for jobs after the INS raids? When asked why they were applying if these were jobs “Americans won’t take”, they responded that they were the ones who worked there before the Aztecs were trafficked here to replace them.
Americans will do any job; they always did; they just won’t do them for bare sustenance wages like on a feudal estate.
