‘Thank you’: Actor, Olympian, pilot and politician Bud Spencer’s last words
Washington Post ^ | June 28 2016 | Travis M. Andrews

By the time Bud Spencer attracted legions of Italian spaghetti western film fans, including Quentin Tarantino, he had done more than most people do in a lifetime.

After a life in which he worked as a multi-sport Olympic athlete, politician, entrepreneur, pilot and, yes, an actor, Spencer died on Monday at a hospital in Rome. He was 86, but he had packed centuries into those years.

“My father died peacefully at 6:15 p.m. and did not suffer from pain, he had all of us next to him and his last words were ‘Thank you’,” his son Giuseppe Pedersoli, a film producer, said in a note to the media.

Most know Spencer as the hulking actor who played a (somewhat) gentle giant who nonetheless liked to slap around goons and take bad men down with a single punch in films like “God Forgives … I Don’t,” “Beyond the Law” and “They Call Me Trinity,” but he didn’t begin acting until he was 38 years old. Before that he made a name for himself in the swimming pool.

This guy. And then read about Eli Wallach who played Tuco in the spaghetti westerns. Didn’t drink alcohol and had discussions with Sergio Leone on how to portray a drunk. Married to the same woman all his life. Served in the Army in WWII.

Amazes me how these worst of the no good characters in the westerns were often as good of men as you can find anywhere.

Old rule in moviemaking; hero has to look a little wet behind the ears, antagonist has to look like he’s been around the block.

The part that amazes me is how many movie villains have been the best people imaginable in real life.

I was wrong! It wasn’t Bud Spencer but I would have sworn it was in GBU!
