So,what rust bucket car should I buy?
It's gotta be cheap,it's gotta be running.
I need a truck, love El Caminos, then again I could buy a cheap truck that runs and get a 68 Camaro, then I watched the original "Gone In 60 Seconds" from 1974 and I like the fake Mach 1.
It has to be a manual not automatic.

Sort of along that line, if you could find a Fairmont or a Mercury Zephyr that would be a good start for a sleeper. The best part is, any aftermarket parts for a Fox-body Mustang will pretty much bolt right in, and there are TONS of aftermarket parts for Fox-body Mustangs.
And if you choose wisely, you can make a Fairmont lighter than a Mustang.

My welding , fabrication, restoration skill sets aren’t perfect but I just hung out with gear heads and welders who were key into my bastardized education in such matters .... best suggestion is to do a night school, vocational in welding and or body shop for basic knowledge. Cut old out, replace with new pretty much. Dive in with simple projects .....

There is only one choice:
The Ford Thunderbolt. From the factory, you'd get low 11 second quarter mile times. Add modern slicks and a fresh tune - and you're in the low 9s.
That will put a Hellcat OR Tesla to shame!

Yep, 1970 Chevelle. Mine sits in storage still awaiting its resurrection.

The car you and the girlfriend sat in, watching all the Grease Monkeys race, while you smooched.
Post the pic.
Your wife will be glad to see how pretty she looked, even back then, and you'll realize how much hair you've actually lost!
