Apple has released previews of its upcoming mobile and desktop operating systems, introducing several new features as well as opening up some built-in applications to third-party app coders.
Apple's desktop operating system is dropping the OS X moniker in favour of macOS, Apple said at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco today.
The Siri digital assistant will make it into the next version of macOS, which has been dubbed 'Sierra'. Siri on Sierra can be used to find files and documents, calendaring and messages. Search results from Siri in the macOS notifications centre can also be copied and pasted into apps and documents.
Apple Pay, already on the company's iOS and Watch devices, will also be available in Sierra.
Retailers will be able to create Apple Pay buttons on their sites to receive payments. Users can authenticate transactions through the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on their iDevices.

I’m waiting for the new iMacs to roll out that are way overdue..... As soon as they do then I will buy it. Until then, I’m in a holding pattern.
Attention Apple:
Fix “Finder” to actually allow you to put things where you want.
Existing “Finder” feels like it was written by 3 year olds.
Make a Thunderbolt2-3 monitor that also works with Display Port.
Do just this and you will be 10 years ahead of Microsoft.
Dump the rest of the fu-fu.
I’m disappointed. They only opened Siri’s API’s up the six categories of apps. So I can’t have Siri call up TuneIn Radio to Rush or Hannity or whatever.
Music is all very well and good, and other than streaming radios stations for music, my music is local on my device. I’m not going to spend ten bucks a month for a streaming music service.
All the desktop OSs are stagnant and/or awful now.
I realize desktop OSs are a mature platform, but this is getting pathetic.

Have you tried the Cinnamon desktop? It’s becoming quite popular, I hear.
What are you talking about? You can always put things in Finder where you want to. Open Finder preferences and set show Hard drives, external disks, CDs, DVDs, and iPODs, and Connected Servers.
How to get rid of some annoyances in Window 10
Custom solid color background
You can still get to it in the old control panel:
Start button> Run then copy and paste:
control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper
You will see the colors that are available from Windows 7.
Get rid of desktop text drop shadows.
Use Iconoid to lock your icons in position http://sillysot.com
Windows 7 does not remember very well but Iconoid will fix this.
In Windows 10 you have to use Task Manager to restart Windows Explorer whenever you save a Theme or Windows blinks.
Uncheck Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop in the settings.
http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-enable-or-disable-shadows-for-texts-on-desktop-in-windows-2
1. Press Windows and Pause Break button together, and System information windows will open.
2. Click on Advance System Settings.
3. In Advanced System Settings Click on Advance.
4. Go to the Settings which is under Performance.
5. Under Performance uncheck the settings Use Drop showdown for icon labels on desktop.
6. Click on Apply and press Ok.
7. Ctrl + Alt + Del to open Task Manager. In the Processes tab scroll down till you see Windows Explorer.
Highlight it then click on the Restart button in the lower right corner.
The regedit seen in above link only works until you save your Theme. Then it adds the drop shadow again.
You have to Restart Windows Explorer again. Use Task Manager to do that.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
On the right-side, look for the entry labeled ListViewShadow. Double-click on the same and change its value from 1 to 0 (zero) to disable shadows for texts. And enter 1 (one) as value data to enable the same.
You can now change to the colors you want and get rid of the drop shadows on the icon text.
For a program designed for Unix, I find it stunningly primitive
Other than that, I really like Apple OS X
It's called Linux. And if I can do it, *anyone* can do it.
Thanks. I’ve a Win10 partition on this machine, but mostly use MacOS X.
Yeah, I’ve a Linux Mint 17.3 partition.
It’s certainly the best of the Ubuntu derivatives, but still lacks a great deal of refinement for a desktop OS. It never feels as nice to use as OS X does.
My granddaughter is a rising freshman in college, and plans to get a laptop Mac (because, I suspect, she learned that Macs are predominant on campus where shes going. AFAIK she doesnt have Mac experience, tho she does use an iPod touch . . .)I have been thinking about suggesting that she get her Mac now, and acclimate herself to it over the summer. OTOH I could suggest waiting for a shoe to possibly drop in Cupertino. What would your guess be?
Since Im contributing to that project, my suggestion would carry substantial weight.
I’m inclined to agree with you. She will have a lot on her plate as a Freshman and adding learning a new OS would just be piling on. Give her a head start by doing some “summer school” of learning her way around OS X. Since she is already accepted, she can probably use that college as her school and get the education discount on an online purchase. Look at the bottom of the Apple.com site for the education store to save some money and for their education specials.
