Reports on Sunday said the relatives of a couple who tied the knot in Tsada in Paphos on Saturday would be lodging a complaint with the Paphos bishopric after the officiating priest allegedly punched the grooms brother in the face during the wedding ceremony.
The incident was reported by Politis and CyBC news sites.
According to the two articles, during part of the ceremony, one of the best men was pushed in a friendly way by the grooms brother during the Isiah Dance in which the altar is circled three times as part of the ceremony. The reports said the priest became frustrated and enraged, put down his prayer book and hit the brother in the face, drawing blood.
The father of the groom then went for the priest but was restrained, though the wedding almost came to a halt. When everyone calmed down however, the ceremony was completed but the priest allegedly disappeared immediately afterwards.
The relatives of the newlyweds were angry over what had happened and intend to lodge a complaint, the reports said.
Maybe the Priest thought it was a Confirmation?
Don’t diss the Isaiah Dance.
Ever.
I love a fun wedding! Dancing and fisticuffs...
Haha ... great inside humor!

The common cup and the dance of Isaiah
After more prayers, a common cup of sweet wine is blessed and shared by the couple as a sign of their common life together, a sharing of joys and sorrows, successes and failures, hopes and fears:
I shall partake in the Cup of Salvation,
and I shall invoke the name of the Lord.
This is followed by the triple procession around the center table: the “Dance of Isaiah”. The priest, holding the Gospel or Blessing Cross and the clasped hands of the groom and bride, and followed by the best man (or woman) who holds the newlyweds’ crowns above their heads, and the bridesmaids holding the lit white candles, walk three counterclockwise turns around the table in a celebratory “dance”. Each of the three turns is accompanied by each of the three hymns, which return once more to the theme of martyrdom and union with Christ. These are the hymns that, since ancient times, the Church has used to emphasize God’s blessings, and the same ones sung at ordinations to ecclesiastical orders. They signify that this couple has been set apart from the mundane world to live a life in Christ:

I sure he was just trying to heal the guy. Like one those crazy TV preachers. He had a devil in him!
I was best man at a wedding. The minister was dressed up like some of padre. He took it upon himself to tell me how to ... stand at the rehearsal.
So I humored him. After the ceremony he tracked me down, standing there. I figured out that he wanted his fee. I told him I didn’t have it. But I did.
The only way I can determine guilt or innocence is by a picture of the bride.

Good for him.
Thought it was an Irish wedding, at first.
All the funny hat religions have the most bizarre rules and rituals. Just sayin’
What a great headline..
