My Very Own Obamaphone
From theTrumpet.com ^ | May 25, 2016 | Robert Morley

Last week, I almost got my very own Obamaphone—by accident.

I own a Tracfone; it is one of those prepay plans. The carrier was upgrading from 2G to 3G, and I was sent a new phone to replace my old one.

And then the discovery! My perfectly good Tracfone had been mysteriously transformed into an Obamaphone.

I might have had a tax payer-provided phone with free monthly minutes and unlimited text messaging for life! Plus a whole lot of free Internet access too!

That’s how close I came to my very own Obamaphone.

[snip]

It’s a testament to the efficiency of the United States’ welfare industry — and it gives new meaning to the concept of “the land of the free.”

A person doesn’t even need to sign up for a government-sponsored social program; they can simply end up in one.

SafeLink and Tracfone are both owned by Mexico’s América Móvil. The service reps for Tracfone appear to be the same ones for SafeLink. All it took was a wrong transfer — and voila, free calls and texts anywhere in America, including Puerto Rico, Alaska and Hawaii, courtesy of Uncle Sam.

I would have been part of a very big club. Approximately 20 million Americans have received Obamaphones through government programs like SafeLink.

That’s the equivalent population of Nevada, Nebraska, New Mexico, West Virginia, Idaho, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska, Vermont, Wyoming and the District of Columbia combined.

In fact, if rumor is true, entire inner cities have Obamaphones.

That’s what happens when you combine the best aspects of American-style capitalism with government-mandated socialism. Together they are creating the biggest welfare state in American history. And it is going to come crashing down in spectacular intensity.

Politicians create social programs funded by taxes on industry—then corporate collaborators on the government dole employ capitalist efficiency to make the programs the biggest possible.

A lot more in the article...

It amazes me that this ‘free-gift’ from the government was so widely accepted, and no one asked why cars couldn’t be handled the same way. The whole communications industry must have really bribed up a whole class of politicians to get this deal done.

Sounds like a great way for criminals to get their hands of free “burner phones”....

Carlos Slim has a whole lotta pull with our gubermint....

Probably more pull than the other wireless companies because he can bribe politicians and there is nothing our law can do to stop him...

It is very easy to get an Obama phone. Just walk up to any one of the little pop-up booths and tell them you want one. They will walk you through whatever answers they need to hear to sign you up because they are on commission. Isn’t America wonderful. Selling wellfare on commission.

couple of tings

The Lifeline Assistance program added cell phones under GWBUSH.

The universal service fund,(a fed fee that is allowed to be passed on to consumers) which was in the black by billions of dollars, immediately went into the red.

Thanks. Great Article. So much of this goes on, as the writer mentioned, recruiting for food stamps, reduced school lunches for the children, etc. The landlords love subsidized housing because the check comes directly to them. This bathroom issue in schools would never have seen the light of day if not for the connection between local schools and federal payola. But even small local businesses run ads in Spanish, catering to the invaders. And on and on and on, with our eyes wide shut.

This can't end well.
