The killing of a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo after a 4-year-old boy tumbled into the ape's enclosure triggered outrage and questions about safety, but zoo officials called the decision to use lethal force a tough but necessary choice.
More than 2,000 people signed a petition on Change.org that sharply criticized the Cincinnati Police Department and the zoo for putting down the animal and called for the child's parents to be "held accountable for their actions of not supervising their child."
Cincinnati police on Sunday said the parents had not been charged, but that charges could eventually be sought by the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I’m thinking the zoo owes the family an apology for not ensuring a safe environment to view these animals.
Well, Europeans have forgotten their humanity or more accurately to value their humanity.
I'd LOVE to know why a 4 yr has absolutely no one watching him for him to sneak under gates and over a moat....who the hell was supposed to be watching him!
That was the first breach since it opened. The boy didn’t just fall in, he had to make his way through an area before falling in.
There are more than a few right here my man.
Hell 2va
To many on the left and a few here
They value the killing of an animal as an atrocity given it was caused by human carelessness
Any civilization that places animal life over human life ain’t long to prosper
Overall genetic difference between negroid race and high Asian race such as northern Chinese or Japanese is .16-.2 % estimated or 99.8-99.84 similar
Chimps and Bonobos are 99% similar to average human DNA.....closer than once estimated...some more than others....some less
Gorillas are more distinct from humans and chimps even though gorilla faces are quite human like with some
Tiny genetic difference manifest a lot of functioning difference no matter how much we push to deny it
Cats are 90%
Dogs mid 80s%
I'd be fine with that.
On the flip side, the way today's society is, I'm amazed that the parents haven't sued the zoo for not making it impossible for their kid to get into the enclosure.....
TY
I agree. This reminds me of an article on FR last week about kids breaking pieces of art in a museum. If people are going to assume the liability risk of taking their kids places where they can break something or cause expensive losses, they should foot the bill. "You break it, you buy it".
It’s a holiday weekend,hard to find a lawyer.
LOL - that must be it.
I think of the poor kid,it must be a curse to have lousy parents.
I have seen people whose kid(s) seemed possessed as if by a demon. You wonder how much of it is the kid and how much the parents who let the kid walk all over them.
Unless the kid has been diagnosed with a mental defect, the parents are responsible.
I agree the gorilla had to be killed but the parents should face charges as well.
Not I.
When kids get a hold of a gun and kill themselves or another person, I think the gun owner should be held responsible for negligent homicide ... and do serious time, even if it was their own child who died or was injured. And if they have other children serious consideration should be given to removing the child from the home.
Personal responsibility is not just a buzz phrase. You either believe in it or you don’t. I find mostly people do not believe in it despite what they say.
I’ll bet you a bag of donuts that they do sue.
They just seem like that type.
And it is the responsibility of the zoo to keep visitors and animals safe
Margaret Sanger agrees
