Vanity. Airport wait lines.
05.27.2016 | Moi

You know, I fly commercial two times per month to see my father. He's 85 and a veteran. I'm 50 and a veteran. I now have the indistinct pleasure of standing in line up to 4 hours for a three hour flight. I did not have to do this before 9-11.

Okay, there was a little incident 4 years ago when I asked a TSA agent what made him get a job where he got to touch other men all day...

Nonetheless, before the current administration, the airports did not suck half as bad.

Something has been lost. Something needs to be done. The airports SUCK!

I fly 6 times a year and this incompetence just got on my last nerve.

I applied for Global Entry, which comes with TSA PreCheck. $100 for 5 years, need to get the interview done.

Coming back into the country a few days ago validated I need this.

I suspect the Government want more people to apply for this so they can generate more $$$/

Just look at it like you are standing in line at Disney World.

The wait doesn’t matter, it’s all about the experience.

"The wait doesn’t matter, it’s all about the experience."

At least at Disneyland after waiting in a four hour long line you get to enjoy a 2-3 minute long ride that is at least mildly interesting.

At airports the only thing to look forward too is hours crammed into a tiny seat.

Aaargh.

If you are flying that much, the airline should be throwing in a few pre-checks. When I was flying frequently (weekly), they’d give me a precheck every two or three flights.

Avoid McCarran Airport

It depends on when the tourists are going home. I've been in an hour long line with folks loaded down with souvenirs that were never going to fit on the plane, and I've waltzed through in under 5 minutes. Worst lines I've ever seen were in Atlanta, but I knew where the secondary checkpoint was hidden.

Atlanta is always a nightmare. That at Miami International are the two worst airports in the country.

The week after 9/11 I flew to Huntsville to witness a test. Coming back to DCA, I was hassled by a rent-cop for trying to use my building pass that got me into the Pentagon on that horrible Tuesday morning to board the airplane. I swore then never to fly commercial again, and I haven’t.

A flight in and out of Boston might re-order your list of really bad airports. Then, again, I’ve managed to avoid it for almost 20 years now.

I thought military and vets could put their id #s in when they bought a ticket and get through lines faster.

My experience with TSA Pre-Check after shelling out the $65 and going in for the “interview.”

1. The first time I used it, I was randomly selected to go through the full line. Not allowed to use Pre even though my boarding pass was clearly marked.
2. The second time I used it, the line at Pre was longer than the regular line, so I chose the regular line. I’m always prepped to scoot through inspection quickly because I know the drill.

I’ve had two or three better experiences, but so far about 1/3 of my flights indicate it was a waste of money. Now this is personal travel these days as my business travel (mercifully) has gone close to zero the past decade.

Three minutes in security line at John Wayne Airport this morning and this is a busy airport. Actually a longer line at the Starbucks inside.

Midway and O’Hare where both a mess last week...Somewhat better this week.

Family members had 6 a.m. flights...they randomly happened to get a precheck on their tickets...Had they not, they would have missed flights as TSA and airlines don’t open till 4:00 a.m.

You only paid $65? I have read it is $85.

If you have Pre-Check and the regular line is shorter, they allow you to switch to that line? I wonder if the Precheck lines will swell from all the recent travelers granted pre-check.
