New Ice Age knowledge

In fact, deep ocean circulation slowed down to such an extent that the heavy, saline water mass below a depth of 2000 metres was not in contact with the surface for almost 3000 years. "During this time, so much bound carbon in the form of animal and algae remains trickled down from the more intermixed sea surface into the deep water layer that we were able to identify it as the major carbon reservoir that we have looked for so intensively," says Thomas Ronge. The data also showed that the already old age of the water masses was artificially increased from about 3000 to 8000 years as a result of the injected volcanic carbon.

At the end of the last ice age, when the Antarctic sea ice decreased again, the westerly winds returned to the south and the ocean circulation picked up speed again, the deep water enriched with carbon reached the surface of the sea. "The water then released large amounts of the stored carbon in the form of old carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and thus significantly accelerated the warming of the planet," says Thomas Ronge.

Today, carbon-rich deep water around the Antarctic is transported to the sea surface as well. Since the industrialisation, however, carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere has increased to more than 400 ppm, which means that the Southern Ocean is not currently emitting carbon dioxide, and instead is absorbing the greenhouse gas, which in turn slightly dampens global warming. Previous model studies indicate, however, that this ratio may reverse in the coming centuries.

New Ice Age Knowledge: It was very, very, very, cold.

Two big problems I see with this study are CO2 is not a "greenhouse gas" and the Earth is an open system receiving tons of new matter and energy annually.

Without CO2 plants would die and then all animal life would die. My guess is that that is the left's true agenda: kill all life on Earth.

They will not succeed.

seems to suggest that it was heat that caused the carbon dioxide spikes during past climate cycles rather than carbon dioxide that caused the heat spikes in the previous climate swings.

I find it interesting that their models were all wrong and none of their so called scientific predictions from 15 to 25 years ago have turned out to be true.

Do they admit that.

Nooooo....they double down and come up with an explanation that indicates the event is delayed and it will be even worse....once the _____ happens (that is where all the global warming is hiding...really)

Unless we give all power to a class of folks that know what is best for all of us.

Methane Hydrate is a peculiar substance, in that the methane gas from decomposition combines in a physical (not chemical) bond, in which HUGE volumes of methane are absorbed between the interstices between water molecules, and this a stable conformation as long at the water temperature remains below about 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the temperature rises above that point, the methane hydrate goes through a phase change, reverting to water and the gaseous form of methane.

In ocean depths, the temperature of the water never goes above about 38 degrees Fahrenheit, and it remains stable.

If there were a way to recover this HUGE reservoir of methane from ocean depths, it would be a near inexhaustible energy supply, as there is from 4 to 10 times as much energy in this methane hydrate, than in all the coal, oil, and natural gas trapped in the earth’s crust. Once the technology is worked out, the recovery could lead to one of the cheapest energy supply sources the world has ever known.

And conversion of all this potential energy to useful applications, would propel prosperity to a level that today is unimaginable.

And not prosperity for just a few at the top. It would be the greatest and most equitable distribution of wealth, ever.

They saved “climate change” until the last paragraph.

Not to mention all the CO2 that would spur a boom in plant growth which would no doubt reverse desertification in many areas.

Earth is currently in a CO2 drought.

But the gore-bull warninsts deny that inconvenient truth which is backed up by geological records stretching back many millions of years.

At the end of the last ice age, when the Antarctic sea ice decreased again, the westerly winds returned to the south and the ocean circulation picked up speed again, the deep water enriched with carbon reached the surface of the sea.

Sounds like the planet was warming according to that sentence. But then he says...

"The water then released large amounts of the stored carbon in the form of old carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and thus significantly accelerated the warming of the planet," says Thomas Ronge.

Logic is not Tommy Boy's thang.

...and then everything died from Global Warming. The End.

Here’s the “global warming is causing global cooling” argument again.

Fraud Alert!!
I found this thread mildly interesting until I realized it was totally based on "computer modeling."

The usual bullshit.
Garbage in, garbage out.

Right, right. It would naturally have come down to that. Ok, revised “New Ice Age Knowledge’’: It was very, very, very, cold. And then it got really, really, really... warm. Like. Hot. Sort of.

Kinda like the discovery of "this HUGE reservoir of methane oil from ocean depths beneath the desert sands of the MidEast yielded "the greatest and most equitable distribution of wealth, ever."
