Hawaii Island police reveal disturbing details in triple-murder, suspect's arrest By Web Staff Published: May 6, 2016, 9:50 am Updated: May 6, 2016, 6:41 pm
Hawaii Island police arrested a Puna man early Friday morning on suspicion of multiple murders.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. May 6, officers responded to a disturbance call in the Leilani Estates subdivision in Puna.
"When they got to the house in question, they noticed someone pulling out of the driveway area and started to drive down the road. The vehicle was also driving with no lights on, so they initiated a traffic stop," explained Capt. Robert Wagner with the Hawaii Police Department.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as John Ali Hoffman, 49, of Leilani Estates. According to Wagner, officers saw a handgun next to him and arrested him for a firearms offense.
"While they were there, they noticed there was liquid coming out of the trunk of the vehicle, which appeared to be red in color, consistent with blood, so they conducted check of trunk area and upon opening the trunk area of the vehicle, they discovered the body of an adult female," Wagner said. "At that point, they backtracked, checked the house (to) make everything was okay in that particular house, and at that point, they discovered the bodies of two juveniles within that home," a boy and a girl.
Police would not confirm whether the victims were Hoffman's wife and their two young children, however "it does appear that he lived at the same house with the people that actually expired," Wagner said.
Autopsies are pending.
Hoffman was arrested on suspicion of three counts of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree murder, in addition to the original firearms offense.
He is being held in the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation.
Wagner says this crime is "very unusual. It's not like our island to have this type of particular incident occur."
Book em, Danno.
“Wagner says this crime is “very unusual. It’s not like our island to have this type of particular incident occur.”
Yeah,sure.
They never even have to lock their doors and this only happens in big cities.
There is plenty of crime on those islands.

"Ali," huh.
Middle name Ali????
I realize this looks like the standard husband kills wife and kids but when I see the middle name Ali I still tend to think honor killing
“arrested him for a firearms offense. “ -— Obama should pardon him, as it is a “non-violent” offense, not the murders, which he was arrested for.
Hopefully a lot less crime now that this particular son of Zero is locked up tight. I look at those eyes and see no soul, only thug. He moved to Hawaii from St. Louis 20 years ago. Middle name Ali... Gotta wonder about that, too. Hawaiians ought to be feeling a little less derisive toward The Donald this morning.
Exactly. That’s why I posted it. Lots of box ticking in this case. St. Louis thug. Ali. Dead eyes. Zero’s son. Moves to paradise. What could go wrong?
Indeed
I do appreciate posts like this. We do need to recognize the problem
Looks like a feral “gone Hawaiian”.
If Frank Marshall Davis had another adopted son...
I didn't personally see any violence when I was there but I noticed everything but a red hot stove would disappear rather quickly.
We have property in Hawaiian Paradise Park which is right up the road from Leilani Estates. It’s a rural spread out area not far from Hilo which is still a relatively small town. There’s not much crime in the whole area except theft. If it’s not nailed down its gone.
As opposed to the "allegedly" expired?
Lucky you——it must be beautiful.

We inherited 2 acres many years ago and planned on building on them and retiring there. Due to illnesses that started with Hubby’s mom, then my dad, my mom and finally his dad we wound up having to stay here for many years to care for them. Our window closed. The land is covered in Albizia trees and orchids. We go to Hilo and vacation about once per year and check on the property. I’d like to sell it but so far hubby won’t. Shrug.
Spend a lot of time in Hawaii, and on the Big Island, do you?
Could have sworn you were from the sewer of NYC.
Got to hear them talk to know.
One does not a Muslim middle name for nothing
“Could have sworn you were from the sewer of NYC. “

What’s with the sarcasm?
I do like NYC but I am not from there..
My DIL is Hawaiian—generations of her family are there, including The Big Island.
