Was Ted Cruz's Speech Last Night Shakespearean?
05-05-2016 | Captain Peter Blood

Last night and then again this morning I was watching clips of Ted Cruz's speech where he announced he was leaving the Republican Campaign.

Upon reflection listening to this thing I was struck by how Cruz seemed to have lifted parts of Shakespeare's Henry the Fifth's St. Crispin's Day Speech and made it about him. It was kind of funny when I thought about it.

No. Sounded fake and preachy. Wasn’t sincere in his delivery. You could tell he was bitter.

“there were thousands of people working on his campaign”

Then he should have said, “My team and I...”, or something similar.

Referring to oneself in the plural is something that only monarchs do. It’s off-putting and arrogant.

lol

I know ‘gracious’...and I have followed this season, primarily on this site...gracious is not a word I would use...’courteous, kind, and pleasant’ according to the dictionary.

Yes, FR has been nasty. Both sides. Nearest I can tell, 1 candidate called the other candidate a name every time he spoke of him. It caught on here at FR, and it was nasty.

Last night, there may have been a couple moments of grace. But I heard there was also more wild accusations, continuing similar themes over the past few weeks. I am not talking about here on FR, but a candidate for president of these United States.

The name calling and the wild accusations dribbled onto this website, and it finally got so bad that trashing one of the 2 guys would get you kicked. Trashing the other one, well, remained...remains...great sport.

I am not accusing you of any of it. I have also had to delete some of my comments before posting...multiple times, and sometimes wish I wouldn’t have said a couple things I did say.

It has been hard to visit here recently. I was hoping that when this was wrapped up, things would get better. Some of the threads...still today...trashing out best conservative in the senate...I sure hope when he gets back there, he doesn’t become what many on this website have accused him of being over the past couple months.

We can politely agree to disagree as I don’t see Cruz with TPA, Coker or his campaign actions as even close to conservative. He has not completed a sentence in weeks without trashing Trump which is far worse in my opinion than a name which seems to fit.

But I respect your right to your opinion and would not dream of trashing you for your opinion. My sons served in the military and one is disabled to protect our right to our opinions. I hope the nastiness stops on FR. We are so blessed to have this forum!

I was disappointed with Cruz as the campaign wore on. I wanted him to continue to run for president, but to me it seemed he wanted to compete in ‘Who wants to be Americas next president’. He doesn’t have what it takes to compete there, and his followers didn’t either. But maybe that is where we are at these days.

I do hope that this forum returns to a blessing...conservative...all that stuff...but I think it will be a few months. Some of the people that got kicked...for their opinions...I don’t agree with our host, but it is his site and if he doesn’t want certain things said, that is his prerogative.

Thanks to your family for service...and sacrifice...

More Bulwer Lytton I think.
